A two-alarm fire caused extensive damage last night to a vacant West Baltimore warehouse. No injuries were reported, but there was evidence that homeless people were using the building as shelter, said Chief Kevin Cartwright, a Fire Department spokesman. He said one man was escorted from the burning building by the first firefighters on the scene. The fire, in the 800 block of N. Franklintown Road near West Lanvale Street, was reported at 10:35 p.m., Cartwright said. It went to two alarms at 10:45 p.m. At least 70 firefighters manning 30 pieces of equipment fought the blaze, he said.

Dozens watched and some clapped as a large excavator tore through a dilapidated brick duplex with its steel shovel.

A 30-year-old Baltimore cocaine dealer was sentenced yesterday to more than 15 years in federal prison, according to the U.S. attorney's office. After ordering the 188-month prison sentence, U.S. District Judge William D. Quarles Jr. also directed that Barry Henderson serve five years of supervised release for possession with intent to distribute cocaine, according to federal prosecutors. Henderson -- also known as "Mook" -- received an "enhanced" sentence after Quarles determined that he was a "career criminal" based on three previous convictions related to drugs and handgun possession, prosecutors said.
