The Arc honors Ken Ulman with its President's Award Joseph V. Murray Sr., president of the board of directors of the Arc of Howard County, has presented the 2008 President's Award to County Executive Ken Ulman. The award recognizes a person who has made a significant impact on the quality of life of children and adults with cognitive and developmental disabilities. Ulman was selected because of his support for human service organizations in Howard County, including the Arc. The Arc of Howard County provides housing, employment services and individual and family support programs to people with cognitive and developmental disabilities and their families.

Lance Armstrong won the Revolution 3 Half-Full Triathlon at Centennial Park in Howard County on Sunday, finishing the 70-mile race in just under 4 hours, 11 minutes. The effort by the famous cyclist and embattled seven-time Tour de France winner in the combined swimming, biking and running event, organized by the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults to raise money for cancer awareness, brought him in more than 18 minutes ahead of the second place finisher, Louis Therien of Quebec. Sharon Schmidt-Mongrain of Lafayette Hill, Pa., was the top female finisher in just under 4 hours, 54 minutes.

The Great Columbia Bike Ride, held May 4, raised more than $4,000 for the Children's Care Center of Howard County General Hospital and the Howard County Police Foundation. More than 1,100 cyclists participated in this year's event.Alan Davis, of Princeton Sports and Travel and president of the Great Columbia Bike Ride, presented a $2,000 check to Victor Broccolino, president and chief executive officer of Howard County General Hospital.Another check for the same amount was presented to Gee Gosper, president of the Howard County Police Foundation.
