Bob Lally's resignation is the first major fallout from a transaction that has focused scrutiny on schools chief Andre J. Hornsby and his relationship with a saleswoman for the $40-million-a-year Emeryville, Calif., company. Lally resigned "in response to an internal investigation under LeapFrog's code of conduct relating to a commission paid to a sales representative," the company's parent company, LeapFrog Enterprises Inc., said in a statement.

Ask Kathleen Lally what she doesn't like about living on a boat - even during one of Maryland's coldest winters in years - and she looks puzzled. She scrunches up her face. Then she shrugs. Lally can't think of anything. This, although she is the only boater in a marina tucked away on the Bush River in Harford County. Her neighbors at Bush River Boat Works in Perryman vanished months ago at first chill. Still, she has the company of Squeaky and Fred, the resident geese. And her husband of 28 years, Patrick Lally, stops by often.
