On April 2, 2004, SAMUEL KIRK MILLSPAUGH, beloved husband of Eleanor (Cissy) Medill Patterson Smith Millspaugh, devoted father of Mary Josephine Millspaugh Drayton of Baltimore, Samuel Kirk Millspaugh, Jr. of Lake Worth, FL, Nancy Jenkins Offutt Millspaugh Byxbee of Palm City, FL, and Ann Margaret Millspaugh of Ruxton, brother of Martha Millspaugh Webster of Chestertown, and Martin Laurence Millspaugh. Also survived by four grandchildren, Mary Virginia Drayton, Josephine Bentley Drayton, Katherine Byxbee and Carl Byxbee, Jr. A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM Tuesday, April 6 at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, 5200 N. Charles Street.

David Saks, whose efforts on behalf of people with hearing problems led to a federal law requiring that certain telephones be compatible with hearing aids, died of heart failure Wednesday at the Northwest Hospital Center. The Randallstown resident was 81.Mr. Saks retired in 1973 as owner of Wayside Furniture, which he operated in the Baynesville area for about 20 years after working as a furniture salesman.His wife, the former Reba Sigel, who died in 1993, had served as interior designer in the business.

Having worked for both HMSHost and Areas USA at travel plazas along the Florida Turnpike, I can assure Marylanders that Areas USA is the superior employer and operator ("Judge blocks award of travel plazas contract," Feb. 23). While I have the utmost respect and admiration for both companies, the simple truth is that when Areas USA took over the travel plazas in Florida, the company raised standards, implemented new training programs and empowered employees to achieve better results.

Services for Chauncey Brooks Jr., a retired marketing executive and member of an old Baltimore family, will be at 4 p.m. today at St. Luke's Chapel in Queenstown.Mr. Brooks, who retired 15 years ago as manager of marketing and special assistant to the president of Tracor Inc. in Washington, died of heart disease Friday at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was 76.Born in Baltimore, he was a descendant of the 1850s president of the Baltimore and Ohio railroad whose Cloverdale estate overlooking Druid Hill Park was carved up in the late 19th century for housing developments and streets, including Chauncey Avenue and Brooks Lane.

BERKOFF, 88, of York, PA, formerly of Airville, PA and Baltimore, MD; wife of the late Julius Berkoff; daughter of the late John W. and Alta Mae (Barshinger) Cooper, Sr.; sister of Paul M. Cooper of Airville, PA, Rachael E. Closser of Lake Worth, FL and B. Jane Wilson of Baltimore, MD. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and two sisters in-law. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Helena was a Registered Nurse. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 28 at 7 PM from the J. J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown, PA. Interment will be private in Pine Grove United Methodist Cemetery, Parkton, MD. The family requests no flowers.
