Long-time ABC correspondent Lynn Sherr and I joined Howie Kurtz for some analysis Sunday on the change last week at the ABC News anchor desk involving Diane Sawyer, David Muir and George Stephanopoulos. I really like what Sherr had to say about it being so important for the person who is first in anything "to not mess up. " And Kurtz is right about where the money and power (what's left of it anyway) is in network news.   #sigshell { float: left; width: 320px; height: 52px; margin: 20px 0px; display: block; }

After a week spent writing post after post about "House of Cards" and its troubles in Maryland, I had a chance Sunday on Howie Kurtz's "Media Buzz" to finally weigh in on the troubles of "Meet the Press" and its host, David Gregory. It's been a bad three years for the show as it went from first to third place in the Sunday morning wars. And Gregory's failure as a host was brought ijnto sharp focus last week with a report that NBC News hired a "psychological consultant" to interview Gregory's wife, friends and others about him. NBC claims it was a "brand consultant' -- not a shrink -- as if that is so much better.

The nation's Roman Catholic bishops took a step Tuesday toward aligning themselves with Pope Francis, selecting as their next president Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz of Louisville, Ky. — a man who built a career on a foundation of personal faith and service to the poor. Kurtz, 67, was the overwhelming choice of the nearly 300 prelates on hand for the annual fall meeting of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops at the Waterfront Marriott Hotel in Baltimore. The Pennsylvania native received 125 of the 236 votes cast to easily outpoll the second-place finisher, Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, for a first-ballot victory.

Fox News Sunday debuted "Media Buzz," a weekly media review show hosted by Howard Kurtz, who recently left CNN after 15 years. Since I was a guest on the opening panel, I will refrain from offering a review. I will say I enjoyed the discussion we had about President Obama getting hammered from the right and the left over his words and action on Syria. Check out the video for yourself. Here are links to reviews from critics who were not on the show: Erik Wemple , Washington Post: "'Media Buzz' starts with a roar.

I had a great chance today to be part of two panels on CNN's "Reliable Sources" that looked at how the media were framing the NSA surveillance story even as Edward Snowden was en route to Moscow and points beyond looking for asylum in Ecuador. Host Howie Kurtz and the producers threw out the show's game plan and went with the Snowden story during all segments but one Sunday. Check out these two videos not just to see CNN's worldwide coverage, but also how Kurtz and his guests were able to critique the media aspect of the story as the story itself was unfolding.

I'm coming back to work after a much-needed week away, and I am starting with a busy day Sunday that opens in Washington at CNN's "Reliable Sources. Here's his description from the CNN website: Another week and another debate hit our TV screens with just over two weeks to go until the Iowa caucus. We'll have “The Press Pool” host Julie Mason, National Review senior editor Ramesh Ponnuru, and Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank to talk about the latest political headlines.
