At Centennial, Sheri Kujawa did not lose many volleyball matches, and she wants to help establish that same kind of winning tradition at Rutgers next fall.The All-Metro Volleyball Player of the Year who led Centennial to its fourth straight state title last fall, Kujawa has signed a letter of intent to attend Rutgers University in New Jersey.Unlike Centennial, which spent all of last season ranked No. 1 and finished with a 21-1 record, Rutgers has not had much recent success. The Scarlet Knights finished last season 6-21 under first-year coach Ann Leonard.

DENTON -- Lisa Mae Friedel, a Caroline County high school student accused of shooting her parents to death in late March, apparently was no stranger to firearms.Police said yesterday that the .357-caliber Magnum handgun Ms. Friedel allegedly used was part of a gun collection owned by her stepfather Larry Kujawa, who had taught the 16-year-old how to shoot.The bodies of Mr. Kujawa, 46, and Ms. Friedel's mother, Laura Mae Kujawa, 47, were discovered March 31 in the bedroom of the family's modest rancher outside Harmony in rural southwestern Caroline County.

A 16-year-old Caroline County girl who is charged with killing her parents as they lay in bed was arrested yesterday at a motel in Ocean City, where she and four other teen-agers went for a trip, state police said.Lisa Mae Friedel is accused of shooting her mother, Laura Kujawa, 47, and stepfather, Larry Kujawa, 46, with a .357-caliber Magnum at the family's ranch home in the rural community of Harmony along the Choptank River, police said.The killings occurred about 10 p.m. Tuesday after the Kujawas, who worked at the Dupont plant in Seaford, Del., had gone to bed to watch television, said Michael McKelvin, a state police spokesman.

She had four starters back from a team that went 16-2 and lost in the state semifinals, but there were many questions beyond that group. With improvement expected from rivals Perry Hall and Catonsville, the Raiders weren't assured of another Baltimore County title, but they won their third in a row. McPherson knew early that it could be a good year, once the Raiders began "playing well together and really supporting each other," she said.
