Upon entering the G. Krug & Son blacksmith shop, I was handed a pair of safety goggles and immediately knew I was in for a treat. All around me were the goings-on of a bygone era. Peter Krug, owner of the Baltimore workshop that has been in business since the early 19th century, crafts steel scrollwork by hand, the old-fashioned way: hammer and anvil shaping red-hot metal heated in a 2,500-degree forge. You don't know hot until you've stood in front of that forge on a summer day in a building that has no air conditioning.

BEVERLY ANN KRUG, 65, of Loudonville, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 6, 2004 with her family at her side. She was born in Baltimore, MD and was the daughter of Gordon Cross and Dorothy Poole. She is survived by her husband William Krug; her children John (Cindy) Wilkinson, William (Debra) Krug, Lisa (Michael) Carey and Randy (Renee) Krug and her eight grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother and step father Dorothy and Harold Poole; her sisters Linda, Virginia and Lois; her brother Paul and their families, all of the Baltimore area.

The Rev. Harry Victor Krug, pastor emeritus of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baltimore, died Friday of heart failure at Carroll County General Hospital. The Westminster resident was 95. Born in Glenville, Pa., Mr. Krug spent much of his life serving his church. "His last official act was baptizing his great-grandson, who was born on Christmas Day," said a daughter, Martha K. Nelson of West Chester, Pa. Mr. Krug graduated from Gettysburg College in 1931 and Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1934, where he earned master of divinity and master of sacred theology degrees.
