Army (7-7) lost to No. 11 Lehigh in Friday's semifinal of the Patriot League tournament, which the Mountain Hawks eventually captured. The Black Knights likely won't play in the NCAA tournament, but the Blue Jays (10-3) could use a victory to cement a seed and a home game in the first round. No. 3 Century's girls lacrosse team used four multi-goal scorers, led by Haley Bord-ner with five, to stay unbeaten Thursday by beating Winters Mill, 13-5. The host Knights (12-0) opened with a 5-0 run and led 8-2 at the break. No. 4 Marriotts Ridge 21, Oakland Mills 2: Marissa Davey and Taylor Hensh each scored four goals for the visiting Mustangs (11-0). Boys lacrosse No. 11 Winters Mill 10, Century 5: Spenser Love scored a game-high five goals and added two assists to power the visiting Falcons (10-1)

Sailing Rutherford sets Americas record Matt Rutherford crossed the finish line at the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel Bridge in Norfolk, Va., at 10:48 a.m. Wednesday, becoming the first solo sailor to circumnavigate North and South America nonstop. Rutherford, who is sailing a 27-foot boat christened the St. Brendan, will step on land for the first time Saturday at noon during a public ceremony in Annapolis. The event will be streamed live from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at solotheamericas.org and crabsailing.org.

A 36-game losing streak dating to 2005, including an 0-12 season in 2011, had the sophomores on the CCBC-Essex women's lacrosse team considering calling it quits this year. "Last year we didn't win any games," said sophomore midfielder Paige Orpin (Perry Hall Christian). "I think only maybe two of them were close. I wasn't sure if I wanted to play anymore. " Sophomore attacker Alexandra Breslin-Spinnato (Eastern Tech) was similarly frustrated. "It was really hard," she said.

When Century forward Angela Flister looked at the scoreboard at halftime, she saw her team trailing by 20 points for the first time this season, in the state championship against defending champ Calvert. Still, the senior didn't flinch. "We always come out in the third quarter really strong, so I was hoping maybe we'll have a super strong third quarter this time," Flister said. "We were really positive coming out of the locker room at halftime, but their offense was just amazing.

After barely being tested in regional play and winning three games by double digits, the No. 14 Century girls continued their stellar play in Friday night's Class 2A state semifinal against Owings Mills. The Knights used a fast start and tenacious defense to overwhelm the Eagles, 47-20, at UMBC's RAC Arena. Junior center Jamie Clarke had 10 points and seven rebounds for Century, and senior guard Alice Mercer added 11 points, five rebounds and three steals. "We knew had to step up, especially on defense," said Century senior forward Angela Flister, whose team forced 27 turnovers.

In the last game of the Major Indoor Soccer League regular season Sunday, Max Ferdinand scored in overtime to send the Blast to a 15-13 win over the host Syracuse Silver Knights. Adriano Dos Santos led the way with two goals to help give the Blast (18-6) home-field advantage throughout postseason play. Dos Santos, who also scored two goals in Friday's 18-12 home win over the Wichita Wings, knocked in the first goal of Sunday's game just nine seconds in to give the Blast an early 2-0 lead.
