A 1-year-old boy was fatally attacked by a dog last night at a Northeast Baltimore apartment where his mother was visiting a friend, the child's godmother, police said.The dog, a Staffordshire bull terrier named Rampage, was tied to the kitchen door in the apartment in the 6000 block of Amberwood Road about 8 p.m. when "the baby wandered over to the dog, and the dog attacked him," Sgt. James R. Sparks said.The mother and godmother tried to rescue the baby, he said. When the dog would not release the infant, one of the women stabbed the animal with a knife, and it let go, he said.

Anne Arundel County police identified on Monday the officer who shot an Arnold man in his house July 12 as Doyle Holquist Jr., a four-year veteran of the county police force. Police said Michael A. Housley, 51, grew belligerent and raised a chair over an officer's head when police went to the home to check on his wife, Leah Housley, at the request of Anne Arundel Medical Center. Police said they first used pepper spray and a Taser to try to subdue him. However, Leah Housley said police refused to show her husband documentation for their visit, and assaulted him outside.

Baltimore City Southwestern District Shooting: A man was shot three times in the back on a basketball court behind the 2500 block of W. Baltimore St. about 7:30 p.m. yesterday and was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment. Two men seen running from the scene were being sought. His condition was not immediately known. Northwestern District Robbery: Police were seeking a man who robbed a woman, 70, of six money orders totaling nearly $162 as she walked in the 3200 block of Avondale Ave. about noon Friday.

Two men who robbed Busch's Chesapeake Inn Saturday night narrowly escaped capture when a Southern District officer confronted one of them at the restaurant's kitchen door, police said.The men, both armed with rifles, entered the restaurant in the 300 block of Busch's Frontage Road just before midnight. They made several employees lie on the floor, then robbed them and the cash register.An employee who remained out of sight during the robbery called police and hid near the bar. The suspects forced the other employees into a food cooler after the robbery, police said.

A 35-year-old Southeast Baltimore man has been charged with breaking into a woman's home, stealing her thong underwear and sending her taunting text message images of the pilfered panties, according to police. The victim reported the break-in on Feb 2., saying that her rear kitchen door was pried open and cash, a gold necklace, a gold bracelet, and a pair of red underwear had been taken from her home in the 400 block of N. Lakewood Ave. She told police that she had received the jewelry from a man she knew as "Luis," who after the burglary sent her a text message that included a picture of the stolen panties.

City police made arrests in two recent killings in city neighborhoods rarely in the news for crime, charging a group of men in connection with a home invasion killing in Waverly and charging the father of a Waltherson woman's children in her death. In the most recent case, Tavon Frederick, 35, was fatally shot during a home invasion May 23 in the 3300 block of Westerwald Ave. in Waverly. Two men - Dontre Mitchell, 21, and Donta Dorsey, 23 - were charged in connection with the killing, and police said two others had been identified as suspects.
