I think I may have figured out why Jordan Williams was in such a hurry to get to the NBA: the women. New Jersey power forward Kris Humphries is the latest mediocre NBA big man to net himself a model. The basketball vagabond, who has averaged 5.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in seven NBA seasons, is now engaged to reality show star Kim Kardashian . He gave her a 20.5-carat diamond engagement ring last week, which means he wasn’t making D-League money while coming off the bench for the Nets.

Kim Kardashian spent a romantic Valentine's Day in Charm City, according to her Instagram account, where she posted a photo of herself with 1,000 red roses around her, and another of her and her beau, rapper Kanye West. The couple were in Baltimore Friday for West's performance at the Baltimore Arena, as part of his “Yeezus” tour. The Sun's Wesley Case reported that West, 36, told the crowd his fiancée was in attendance, which Case said, “The crowd approved of this.” On her Instagram, Kardashian, 33, posed a photo of herself sprawled out on her back, with her feet in the air surrounded by 1,000 red roses, according to the caption, and a few lit candles.

Today's news that Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are calling it Kuits (she's filing for divorce after 72 days) has got the Twitterverse going nuts. For the People story on the not-that-unexpected break-up, go here . And before we hear what really went down (if we ever do) check out our favorite break-up reactions on Twitter (so far). @katespencer: "If I were a guest at that wedding I would want my gift(s) & time back. If "Bound 2" is your current love song with your boo or you consider Kanye West your one true valentine, here's good news: The Chicago rapper will headline Baltimore Arena on Feb. 14, Valentine's Day. West announced nine additional dates for his critically acclaimed "Yeezus" tour today. The second leg kicks off at University Park in Pennsylvania on Feb. 13 before arriving in Charm City the following night. For such a romantic day, it seems like a safe bet his fiancee, Kim Kardashian, will be in attendance, too. (Because you care.)

John Coale once dashed off a $500,000 check to help install Martin O'Malley in the governor's mansion. Last weekend at Kim Kardashian's wedding, he got to sit back and enjoy watching somebody else spend wildly. The Democratic fundraiser and his wife, Fox New's Greta Van Susteren, were among the reported 440 guests invited to the over-the-top nuptials in Montecito, Calif. Coale, whose last-minute, $500,000 loan to the O'Malley campaign helped the Democrat oust Republican Gov. Bob Ehrlich in 2006, reports that they had a lovely time watching Kardashian and Kris Humphries get hitched.

Goodbye 2012, it's been real. But on the trends front, we end on a sad note. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West -- two of the most obnoxious people in the world -- are reproducing. Joe Flacco can't even claim the title of the NFL's most pathetic quarterback. Thanks to Congress , the economy may be on the verge of collapse. And Hillary Clinton is in the hospital with a blood clot.  Happy New Year everybody!  In between auto-tuned sets, Kanye West confirmed last night what the gossip mags have been speculating about for months.

This week we asked our b staff about the tweaks they would like to make to this past year if given the chance. Here's what they had to say. •••• Donald Trump would be permanently afflicted with laryngitis.  Luke Broadwater, reporter, The Baltimore Sun •••• I'd have wanted fewer people embarrassing themselves (Anthony Weiner, Herman Cain) and more news of people distinguishing themselves. Where were our Sully stories? C'mon, people.  Anne Tallent, editor,  b •••• I would have tried the fried Oreos at the state fair.

Is it any wonder America is distrusted and held in contempt around the world? I was unaware my tax dollars were paying for fake polio vaccination programs in Pakistan (and no doubt elsewhere). What a dreadful way to "win the hearts and minds" of a population ("A tainted polio program," Jan. 7). A further affront to conservative societies is the manner in which our culture promotes out-of-wedlock pregnancies and adulterous entanglements like Kim Kardashian and her boyfriend Kanye West ("Kim and Kanye, the latest to put marriage last," Jan. 7)

This episode starts with too much drama. I really can't keep up. Let's see … Kourtney and Scott are not sleeping in the same bedroom, surprise. (However, in real life, Kourtney is clearly on baby #2.) Then, Kim and Khloe “are so competitive with one another” according to Kourtney, and the three sisters ultimately get into a conversation about it. More to come later. While we're here, let's also pretend that the Dubai episode all of a sudden informs the general population that Kris Hump and Kim Kardashian weren't meant to be together.

In “Tower Heist,” opening Friday, a group devastated by a failed Ponzi scheme conspire to rob a businessman's high-rise. In preparation for the new flick, we asked our staff which unsuspecting individual they would you like to steal from if they could. •••• The corporate headquarters of Goldman Sachs.  Luke Broadwater, reporter, The Baltimore Sun •••• I would steal Arianna Huffington's accent. Wouldn't that make a sparkling addition to the newsroom?

"If there is anything that links the human to the divine, it is the courage to stand by a principle when everybody else rejects it. " -- Abraham Lincoln History is full of warnings about what happens when people follow public opinion instead of standing by their principles. In its most extreme manifestation, public opinion might well become mob rule when vigilantes take the law into their own hands. Major media have whipped the crowd into its latest frenzy over same-sex marriage, or should I say "marriage equality," the latest euphemism, likely intended to make the masses more accepting of what was once unacceptable.

It wasn't a surprise to learn that famous-for-being-famous Kim Kardashian was pregnant by boyfriend of five months Kanye West. Celebs regularly put the baby carriage before marriage, and she is just the latest. And it wasn't surprising that her family tweeted - because that's how we communicate these days - their joy. We long ago stopped stigmatizing unwed mothers, even ones like Ms. Kardashian who is still tangled in divorce proceedings after her very brief marriage to basketball player Kris Humphries and may still be married to him when her baby is born this summer.

Because during a concert in Atlantic City is the best way to announce a pregnancy, Kanye West let it slip to the world on Sunday that his girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, is expecting. It was before a crowd at the Revel, and a historical plaque marking the occasion is certainly in the works. In the meantime, we found the best reactions to the news on Twitter. Enjoy! "Does Kim know she can't return a baby after 72 days?" - @kdkeane "Most pregnancies last about nine months, or about four marriages in Kim time.

Part Two of the season opener kicks off with a discussion of Malika's boyfriend, Adrian Wilson, a player for the Arizona Cardinals.  We try to figure out whether Rob (or the rest of the Free World) actually cares about this situation. The jury is still out on that for now. Also, we also see Lamar dealing with insomnia, brought on by the NBA lockout … still getting no specifics about the move to Dallas. Later on, Khloe and Malika go on a walk and discuss the potential “baby mama drama” situation.

The Depression had Shirley Temple. This recession has … Kim Kardashian? Maybe every downturn gets the distraction it deserves. This has to be filed under the good news/bad news category: New figures are out showing that advertising has picked up at many magazines, among the industries hit hard by the recession, after steep declines in the past couple of years. But it's not all magazines. While newsstand mainstays like Newsweek and Forbes continued to struggle, particularly big jumps in ad pages came in the category of celebrity mags, those breathless trackers of the stars in all their dating, divorcing, drunken-driving glory.
