Leon Searcy's nagging health problems added intrigue to the Ravens' offensive line and opened a spot on the roster for kicker Danny Kight, who is supposed to shore up the kickoff coverage team, another weak spot for the defending Super Bowl champions. Matt Stover can add to his NFL record of 32 straight games with a field goal tomorrow at PSINet Stadium against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but the All-Pro kicker has a strained quadriceps muscle that has meant shorter kickoffs and good field position for the opposition.

The Crofton Civic Association voted last night not to take a homeowner to court over an alleged covenant violation, prompting a member of the association's covenant review committee to resign and the chairman to write a critical memorandum. The 8-1 vote by the board of directors ends a year-long dispute involving Robert Kight, who had a basketball hoop erected on a 16-foot-by-20-foot slab of concrete in the front yard of his home in the 1600 block of Tarleton Way."This is a sad chapter in the history of covenant enforcement in Crofton," wrote Marty Szostek, chairman of the covenant review committee and secretary of the association's board of directors.

For two decades the only explanation for William Bradford Bishop Jr.'s whereabouts has been in a long-forgotten folk song:Some day they'll find him, down in old MexicoWith Leo his retriever, drinking Jose Cuervo. Why did he do it? No one can tell.He traded his family for a ticket to Hell. The obscure tune on a 1977 Adelphi Records label captured the morbid fascination around one of Maryland's most mysterious killers. But the Montgomery County sheriff and a detective are still sifting through thousands of unconfirmed Bishop sightings around the globe, looking for the real finish to the story.

Kicker Danny Kight is averaging a special teams tackle a game. Racking up tackles is a good thing for every player except a kicker, usually the last line of defense between a returner and the end zone. Kight has four special teams tackles (tying him for sixth on the team) in the four games since he signed with the Ravens, in part because he has had no touchbacks in his past 13 kickoffs. The Ravens' kickoff coverage unit gave up returns of 51 yards to Quincy Morgan and 42 yards to Benjamin Gay in Sunday's 27-17 home loss to the Cleveland Browns.
