As a former independent league player, did you ever imagine you'd play in the majors this long? I never knew how long I was going to play. I never had a number. But I knew in my heart that I was going to come to the big leagues just to prove the doubters wrong. I always live off that. It's easy to say no one's going to make it, because 99.9 percent of the time you're going to be right. I was probably the only one who believed I was going to do it, because I didn't have a tool box, or the five tools.

Aubrey Huff Orioles first baseman Who is the funniest Oriole? Who do you think I am going to say? [Kevin] Millar. He's an idiot. This is the one job he could have because he acts like an idiot constantly. He couldn't act like that in the workplace.

Kevin Millar has a stock tip for you. Millar interrupted a group interview session with struggling pitcher Bruce Chen on Friday and suggested that everyone buy "Bruce Chen stock." "He's not going to go 0-16," Millar said. Buy low, sell high. That's what Millar advised. "You don't buy high and sell low," he said. "What about Kevin Millar stock?" someone asked him. "Buy my stock, too," he said. "I'm a career .290 hitter." His average was .289 before this season, but we won't quibble.

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. -- In spring training, early batting practice is known as "pitching practice" because it's not designed for the guys holding the bats. The pitchers are being evaluated as they throw from behind a protective screen and simulate game conditions for the first time. Kevin Millar had no interest in leaving the bat on his shoulder yesterday. He launched the second offering from reliever Jim Hoey over the tall screen in left field, the ball bouncing onto one of the back fields.

On the Orioles' addition of Aubrey Huff He wasn't my first choice and I still don't understand how Huff fits on a team with [Jay] Payton, [Jay] Gibbons and [Kevin] Millar, but it is a good signing and we didn't have to trade away any of our young pitching. He won't make the O's a contender. This is a good signing, and it was nice to see the O's personnel pull together to reel him in.
