Wood's 226th strikeout moved him past Tom Hughes, who fanned 225 in 1901. The Cubs' overall rookie record is 268 set by Larry Corcoran in 1880. Wood is the first Cubs pitcher to homer twice in the same season since Dennis Eckersley in 1986.
