They have the country's top-rated Division I-A quarterback and NFL-caliber players at every other skill position.If not for the infamously bland white uniforms they were wearing or the instantly recognizable 67-year-old guy with the sunglasses and jet-black hair pacing the sideline, you'd probably not believe it was Penn State.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State's first-ever meeting with Michigan today already held historic implications. But when Michigan was ambushed by Michigan State last week, that Big Ten matchup in Beaver Stadium suddenly had the ring of a salvage operation.The wounded Wolverines (1-1 in the Big Ten, 3-2 overall) need a victory today to keep alive their hopes for a sixth straight conference title.The Nittany Lions (2-0, 5-0) need a victory to keep pace with unbeaten Ohio State, whom they meet in two weeks.

Joe Paterno picked Penn State's starting quarterback yesterday, opting for experience over potential, and John Sacca over Wally Richardson and Kerry Collins.In his weekly teleconference, Paterno said that neither Richardson nor Collins had done enough in the preseason to unseat Sacca as the No. 1 quarterback going into Penn State's Big Ten debut against Minnesota on Saturday."My thinking was that when we went into preseason, somebody had to beat John out," Paterno said. "I felt John had played well last year, maybe a little better than Kerry.
