SARASOTA, Fla. -- Left-hander Kelvin De La Cruz began toying with a sidearm delivery two years ago, but last season he realized how it could benefit him while pitching for the Dodgers' Triple-A team in Albuquerque. The 6-foot-5 De La Cruz throw conventionally most of the time, but he will drop his arm angle to left-handed hitters when ahead in the count and with two-strikes, showing a slider that sweeps across the plate away from lefties. “It's really been a career-changer for me,” said De La Cruz, who threw a perfect seventh inning - and retiring two left-handed batter -- in the Orioles' 9-7 exhibition win over the Blue Jays on Saturday.

A federal appeals court overturned the sentence of a Baltimore police officer convicted of taking kickbacks from a tow truck company, ruling that a lower court was wrong in how it assigned a dollar value to the scheme. The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Officer Kelvin Quade Manrich, 44, should be sentenced again. "Hopefully, it will result in a lower sentence," said Bruce A. Johnson Jr. the attorney who represented Manrich in the appeal. Manrich pleaded guilty to counts of conspiracy and extortion under color of official right after five days of trial last year.

A medic unit that had rushed to the scene of the midday shooting in Belair-Edison sat idling in the street. With the dead man's body under a sheet, there was no one to transport. Word was spreading about 49-year-old Kelvin Moyd's being shot. Relatives came running down Pelham Avenue, visibly upset and too frantic to cry. Two women burst through crime scene tape. One was bear-hugged by a male officer, who had other officers come to his aid as he struggled to keep her back. Then a man came down the street and a group of people swarmed him before he could confront an officer.

Jordan McKelvin first fell in love with golf at age 2. She received a plastic set of golf clubs as a gift from her great-aunt, and she rarely put them down. By the time she turned 5, visits to the driving range with her dad became commonplace. She isn't playing with toy clubs any more. In just her second year of high school competition, McKelvin's skill has made the Westminster sophomore one of the state's best golfers. And her work in school and the community has achieved equally high marks.
