HEY, JAMISON: : Joe Flacco has thrown at least one interception in all but one game this season. Is anybody talking about this trend that he is falling into? Also, have the Ravens talked about using Kelly Talavou as a fullback in the "Jumbo" package?

This quarter was marked by missed opportunities. The Bengals took the opening kickoff and went 50 yards in 12 plays in reaching the 14-yard line before Shayne Graham's field-goal attempt was partially blocked by Kelly Gregg. The snap was high, and Graham had little chance to get his timing down. The Bengals took seven minutes off the clock. The Ravens marched down the field on their first drive, but quarterback Joe Flacco was intercepted in the end zone by Johnathan Joseph. Each Wednesday we'll bring you a Q&A with a Ravens player to help you learn a little more about the team. Today's guest is defensive tackle Kelly Gregg, who is tied for fourth on the team in tackles with nine and is part of a defense that ranks first in the NFL against the run. Gregg chatted about playing in his first regular-season game in more than a year, matching up against one of the toughest offensive lines in NFL history and "noodling." Question: The season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept.

Despite his initial apprehension - yes, he nearly turned down John Harbaugh's job offer two years ago - Greg Mattison is perfectly comfortable in Baltimore running the Ravens' defense. Promoted from linebackers coach to defensive coordinator after just one season in the NFL, longtime college coach Mattison this season replaced the trash-talking, bigger-than-life persona that was Rex Ryan. If August was any indication, the Ravens' defense still is as bodacious as ever. "I've said it time and time again," Ray Lewis said once more this week.

Defensive end-linebacker Terrell Suggs said he is playing Thursday, which will mark his first game action of the preseason. Suggs, who injured his heel Aug. 2, returned to practice Monday. "I'm going to go a little bit," Suggs said Tuesday about the preseason finale, "and see how the heel is actually holding up." Limited action in the preseason is becoming a tradition for Suggs. Last year, he didn't report to training camp because he was the team's franchise player but returned to play in the last two preseason games.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - -Steve Hauschka failed to finish off the Ravens' kicking battle. The favorite after two preseason games, Hauschka missed wide right on a 27-yard field goal on the Ravens' first drive Saturday night. It marked his first miss after making his first three attempts of the preseason. Ravens coach John Harbaugh said the Ravens were ready to announce the winner after the game, but he now will wait until Thursday's preseason finale at Atlanta. "It was a little bit disappointing," said Harbaugh, who noted that he was displeased with Hauschka's kickoffs as well.

Mark Clayton moved closer Thursday to returning to game action, but it won't be this week, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. Moments after Clayton told reporters he felt he could play in Saturday night's preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, Harbaugh said the Ravens would not risk their veteran wide receiver in a game before the final week of the preseason and possibly not before the season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 13. "The season is obviously the most important part," Harbaugh said.

When Kelly Gregg and I stroll into the Owings Mills Red Robin on a recent muggy summer afternoon, I contemplate telling our waitress that she might want to alert the cooks, just in case they need backup. I've been dreaming of this moment for months, maybe even years, since hearing tales of Baltimore Colts writers describing the eating habits and antics of Art Donovan, the beefy, everyman hero of his time. Donovan could eat 25 hot dogs in one sitting. He once ordered three pizzas, polished off two of them, then saved the third for breakfast the next morning.

While many questions remain after the Ravens' first full-team practice of training camp, one was answered resoundingly Friday: Fans still have a love affair with No. 52. Ray Lewis rankled some of his most ardent supporters five months ago when he didn't make it clear during free agency that he wanted to return to the Ravens. But a fervent announced crowd of 11,078 welcomed the middle linebacker with open arms at McDaniel College. When Lewis stepped onto the field to start his 14th training camp, fans shrieked and started chanting his name.
