The Bucknell women's lacrosse team enters the season with reason for optimism. After a 5-8 record in 1999, the Bison fell just one win shy of the .500 mark last season. With the return of several talented players from the Baltimore area, coach Barb Jordan and the Bison are looking to have a winning season. Making up the backbone of the team are senior captains Ashley Evans and Kari Evans. Ashley (Severna Park) had a career-high 35 goals last season and is the Bison's leading returning scorer.

It would have been so easy to have taken "Lucky Day" and boiled it down into usual TV movie pabulum. Here's what the story of this ABC movie would have been then. A woman takes care of her retarded sister after both grow up mistreated by their alcoholic mother. When the retarded woman wins $2 million in a state lottery, their mother, claiming sobriety, suddenly reappears in their lives and fights to take the woman back under her roof in order to get her hands on the money. That didn't happen to "Lucky Day."

"Lucky Day" almost has it all.The ABC movie, which will air at 9 tonight on WJZ-TV (Channel 13), has three of the acting performances of the year and a script with enough smarts and touching moments for two or three television movies. What keeps "Lucky Day" from being flat-out the made-for-TV movie of the year is the ending. It's a little more upbeat than it should be. It cheats in the direction of happily-ever-after the way too many television movies do.But what a splendid piece of work it is up to that point.

The Liberty volleyball team certainly is trying to keep everything in the family. That's because the No. 10 Lions boast two sets of sisters on their roster. Emily and Holly Hall play for Liberty along with Kari and Keli Myers. Both pairs of siblings are helping the Lions in their drive to another state playoff appearance. There are several strikingly similar facts about the Hall and Myers sisters. Both are about 13 months apart in age with the elder (Emily, Kari) a senior and the younger a junior.
