A great place to see airplanes up close is at the Thomas A. Dixon Jr. Aircraft Observation Area off Dorsey Road, ringing Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. The planes come right above the cars for takeoff or landing. Sunday, as the planes roared by every five minutes or so, a couple sat on the hood of their car eating pizza and pasta. "We want to try something new on Sundays, so we thought we'd come here," said Lance Kandel of Ellicott City. The Martz family of Odenton comes regularly: 2-year-old Drew loves to watch the planes and then play on the adjacent playground.
