Cornerback Jimmy Smith appeared to injure his leg during Saturday's practice and did not participate in the remainder of the session. Smith battled leg cramps Friday, but the injury is not expected to be serious. Defensive coordinator Dean Pees said he wasn't sure of the severity of the injury, adding, "I think it was something in special teams. I don't know exactly what it was, but it was in the special teams practice that he did something. I really don't know exactly what it was. " Cornerback Lardarius Webb, who was excused from Friday's practice to attend to a personal matter, returned and participated in Saturday's session.

Rookie outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw headlined a group of players who suffered injuries in Thursday night's preseason finale against the St. Louis Rams, but how they are faring the day after is unclear. Coach John Harbaugh declined to provide updates on those players, citing NFL rules that team are not required to disclose injuries until Wednesday, which is the first day when injury reports are distributed. “As far as injuries, injury reports are on Wednesday through Friday, so there won't be any more comment on that until Wednesday,” Harbaugh said after Friday's practice at the team's headquarters in Owings Mills.

Ravens cornerback Lardarius Webb returned to practice Saturday afternoon after being excused from Friday's training camp workout to take care of a personal matter. That was the only change in participation from Friday's practice. Offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie was again a no-show at practice and could be subject to another day's worth of fines. On Friday, fellow offensive tackle Michael Oher, who has taken over for McKinnie on the left side, said that he had talked to McKinnie and expected him to return to the team soon.

Courtney Upshaw was hoping to salvage a disappointing preseason with a good performance against the St. Louis Rams. Instead, the rookie linebacker left the Edward Jones Dome on Thursday night with more questions about his health and more doubts about his availability for the Ravens' Sept.10 regular season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. Upshaw, who was bothered throughout training camp by a sprained right shoulder, reinjured it in the second quarter of the Ravens' 31-17 loss.

Less than 24 hours before quarterbacks, rookies and players coming off injuries participate in their first practice of training camp, the Ravens made a roster move today, releasing guard Howard Barbieri. The Ravens signed Barbieri in January to a reserve/futures contract. He did not participate in the offseason team activities because of an undisclosed injury. Barbieri, 24, played his college ball at Rutgers. The 24-year-old was with the Houston Texans last year but has never played in an NFL game.

Ravens left tackle Bryant McKinnie has reported to training camp and is off the did not report/restricted list, but he's still not practicing. McKinnie, who has told reporters that he hurt his back in an accident at his Florida home, will have to pass the conditioning test and prove he is healthy before he returns to practice. He's likely to be put on the non-football injury list or the physically unable to perform list until he's ready. Ravens second-year cornerback Jimmy Smith (lower leg)

Like many young men who labored through youth football leagues, high school competition and eventually the college gridiron, Gino Gradkowski had visions of reaching the pinnacle of his profession and playing in the NFL. But Gradkowski - whose dream became reality when the Ravens used the first of two fourth-round picks in April's draft to select the Delaware product - conceded that there was one facet that gave him reason to pause. "You hear the horror stories about the NFL, about the guys who tell you the wrong thing or just won't talk to you at all," the rookie center-guard said.

Linebackers Jameel McClain and Brendon Ayanbadejo, who were considered game-time decisions for today's AFC Divisional Playoff game against the Houston Texans, will both play today. McClain (knee sprain) and Ayanbadejo (quad) were both limited participants in practice all week. However, they both looked mobile during pregame workouts, and did enough to convince the coaching staff that they are ready to go. The only surprise inactive was cornerback Chris Carr who wasn't on the injury report all week.

PLAY OF THE DAY: Tandon Doss reached back to make a one-handed grab in the middle of the field. It was another example of how the rookie fourth-round pick catches anything within his grasp. BEST TAKEDOWN: In one-on-one pass rushing drills, rookie offensive tackle Jah Reid threw Sergio Kindle on his back. Reid might have struggled in that preseason opener, but he continues to flash athleticism and power in practice. PILING ON: Fights have been a rare occurrence at this year's training camp.
