Less than two weeks after signing a one-year contract with the Ravens, linebacker Rolando McClain was arrested in Decatur, Ala., on Sunday and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. McClain, who is from Decatur and played college football at Alabama, was arrested after an incident at Pines Park, according to a police report. Ravens coach John Harbaugh isn't sitting idly by waiting for the 2013 NFL draft to roll around on Thursday. This weekend, Harbaugh and other members of the Ravens organization, including senior vice president of public and community relations Kevin Byrne, competed in a Tough Mudder race in Gerrardstown, W.Va. This short video -- set to ear-rattling heavy metal music, of course -- posted on the team's official website shows the coach of the reigning Super Bowl champions climbing cargo nets and other obstacles, carrying logs or his teammates, cannon-balling into muddy ponds, swimming under obstacles, and crawling through mud. You know, if you're into that sort of thing.

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan is never shy about voicing his opinion so perhaps it should come as no surprise that the Ravens former defensive coordinator weighed in on a matter that has nothing to do with him or his current team. In a conference call with reporters following the release of NFL's regular-season schedule, Ryan took issue with the fact that the Ravens, the reigning Super Bowl champions, are opening the season on the road after they couldn't work out a scheduling conflict with the Orioles for the night of Sept.

As you probably know by now, the NFL will release its regular season schedule tonight at 8 p.m. on the NFL Network. You most certainly know by now that the Ravens will open up on the road on Sept. 5 after they failed to work out a scheduling conflict with the Orioles for that night. Their opponent for the opener has not been announced but I think it would be a huge surprise to everybody at the Ravens' facility if it's not the Denver Broncos. Maybe, it was just a coincidence but the Ravens' Torrey Smith and the Broncos' Von Miller were even the live guests on a scheduling show last night on NFL Network.

The Ravens won't get their season-opening home game, like reigning Super Bowl champions have for the last decade. But they will play four prime-time games, including a Thanksgiving night showdown at home against the rival Pittsburgh Steelers, and a much-anticipated rematch with the Denver Broncos to kick off their Super Bowl XLVII title defense. The NFL released its regular-season schedule Thursday and it's highlighted by the Ravens' Sept. 5 matchup against the Broncos, a pairing that produced one of the league's most memorable games from the 2012-13 campaign.

The conversations didn't just start in the aftermath of the Ravens' victory in Super Bowl XLVII. They actually began four months earlier when Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome , owner Steve Bisciotti and coach John Harbaugh started to meet and plan for 2013 and beyond. “What happened after we won the Super Bowl, that's something that Steve, John and I probably started talking about in October, November, as to what the team was going to look like in 2013,” Newsome said yesterday.

Ravens assistant general manager Eric DeCosta was reading comments recently from former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson that he felt summed up his organization's drafting philosophy perfectly. "I think the thing we want to try to do - this is something that Jimmy Johnson believes - [is] when you have a lot of picks as he had when he did the Herschel Walker trade, you've got to make sure to approach the draft like every pick is the only pick you have," DeCosta said. "It's easy when you have so many picks to just throw some picks away and deal and do all these different things.

The Ravens have finalized a one-year contract with veteran quarterback Caleb Hanie, according to a league source. Hanie is in Baltimore today and will immediately join the Ravens' offseason conditioning program. The Ravens later announced the deal. In Hanie, the Ravens have added another quarterback for training camp and provided Tyrod Taylor with competition for the backup job. "He's a talented guy," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "He's played in games and maybe hasn't been in the ideal situation for him yet. Based on the evaluation of our pro personnel department and our coaches, they felt like he fit us pretty well.

In New York, where he was to be honored at Thursday night's Straight for Equality Gala, Brendon Ayanbadejo suggested to a local newspaper reporter that one of the reasons that he was cut by the Ravens was his outspoken advocacy for same-sex marriage - a suggestion he later distanced himself from on Twitter. “My bark is louder than my bite,” Ayanbadejo told Newsday. “I make a lot of noise and garner a lot of attention for various things off the football field. When that starts happening, why do you have that player around?
