I am faced with a new problem. Sunlight pours in through the windows of my new condo, and the heat makes the air conditioner run all day. Do you have any suggestions that won't cause me to lose the view? A great view and natural light is certainly a winning combination. However, I do understand about the heat as well as possible fading. My suggestion would be getting something that allows you to control the light. Screen shades come to mind as a perfect option. Hunter Douglas has several types, and they come in different openness options, allowing you to control the amount of light that comes through.

Edgewood senior attackman Jim Ryan has scored three goals and contributed seven assists in the Rams' 3-2 start this season. He is one of four team captains and a two-year starter. Ryan also is an outstanding football player as an offensive guard-linebacker, and was the school's National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete this past season. In addition to being a two-sport standout, Ryan ranks fifth in his class with a weighted 4.1 grade point average and plans to study business at Furman University in Greenville, S.C. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society.

They have been together for 10 years and they speak in the shorthand of couples who have grown comfortable with each other over time. "There are just too many choices. When I get overwhelmed, I know I can call him," said Linda Forchheimer of Bel Air. "She knows what she likes and what she doesn't like," said Jim Ryan. "That's makes it so much easier than someone who can't decide what they like. " Ryan and Forchheimer, interior designer and homeowner, are choosing paint colors for a bedroom in her townhouse that she is converting to an office and a comfortable reading room.

Jim Ryan, Edgewood SPORT LACROSSE BOYS STATS -- Ryan, a junior, has 10 goals, five assists and 35 ground balls as the starting attackman for the Rams. SIDELINES -- Ryan has a 3.96 grade point average and is ranked seventh in his class of 267 students. He belongs to the National and Spanish honor societies and the National Academy of Finance. He played guard and linebacker for the football team, which won the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference championship. He also was the punter and kicker on the team.

THE ROLAND PARK Second Presbyterian Church looked absolutely stunning last Saturday for the wedding of Natalia Pia Melanie Sommer and Richard Matthew Dohler. Thousands of wildflowers, miles of lace ribbons and tulle, and window sills decorated with Singapore orchids set the stage for the nuptials of the daughter of pop music star Donna Summer and her first husband, Helmut Sommer,and the son of Dick and Bonna Dohler, he's an Ellicott City builder.The church was filled with the music of German trumpeteer Langston Fitzgerald and selections of Bach, Beethoven and Vivaldi, played by the church's music director Margaret Budd on the organ.

ELMONT, N.Y. -- Awad, a Maryland-bred grass champion of 1993, came from last place in a 12-horse field to win the Grade I $200,000 Early Times Manhattan Stakes by a nose over Blues Traveller yesterday at Belmont Park.Jim Ryan, the horse's owner-breeder from Mount Airy, flew in from the Middle East, where he is building homes on the West Bank, to watch the horse win.Awad is a son of Ryan's 1983 Maryland-bred Belmont Stakes winner Caveat, who died earlier this year at the Northview Stallion Station in Chesapeake City.

Peter Angelos, majority owner of the Orioles, has purchased one of the most visible horse farms in the state, Ross Valley Farm in Baltimore County.Motorists on Interstate 83 gaze upon its rolling hills and white fences just south of the exit to Hereford. Angelos paid $2.6 million for the 237 acres formerly owned by Eleanor Ross Lynch."It's probably one of the most beautiful farms in the state," Angelos said. "It's just a picture to behold."Angelos said the farm will allow him to expand his horse-racing enterprise, something he's wanted to do for years.
