River Hill striker Justin Hughes said he remembers going to soccer games when he was 8 or 9 years old to watch Bill Stara coach. Yesterday at Atholton, he was part of a milestone, 300th victory for Stara as No. 1-ranked River Hill defeated the Raiders, 5-1. "He's a great coach who always knows what to say at the right time," Hughes said. "It was a special day, although he didn't want to make a big deal of 300. "He told us before the game that he didn't want it to overshadow what the team is trying to do. But there was a different feeling today.

Glenelg has some voids to fill if it hopes to duplicate last season's 8-3 record and first playoff appearance in seven years.Subtract six Baltimore Sun first-team All-Howard County players lost through graduation, including the county's leading rusher, Paul Brosenne (1,442 yards, 14 touchdowns), and you can almost hear the gulp in the throat of third-year coach Ed Ashwell. But Ashwell doesn't want this year's team to think it can't have another 8-3 season and that it won't continue a turnaround at Glenelg.
