Three young men suffered gunshot wounds, apparently after an altercation involving a large group outside a Frederick County community center late Saturday, authorities said yesterday. Names and conditions of the victims and details of the shooting remained sketchy. Cpl. Jennifer Bailey, a spokeswoman for the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, said one victim was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with a head wound, and the other two went to Frederick Memorial Hospital. Bailey said that Deputy 1st Class Jose Rivera was on routine patrol about 11:40 p.m. when he saw a crowd outside the Discovery Community Center in Walkersville.

Ranked No. 24 in the most recent USA Today Top 25 list, No. 2 in the area and riding a 16-game winning streak, Loch Raven's defending 2A state champion girls soccer team is under increasing pressure.But you wouldn't know it considering the poise with which the Raiders continue to dismantle their opponents, having outscored them, 45-2.Yesterday, Loch Raven (8-0) visited No. 10 Mercy, its toughest foe to date, and again the Raiders dominated, hammering an injury-riddled squad by a 25-5 shots-on-goal margin en route to a 2-0 nonleague victory and their sixth shutout.

Authorities say two family members have been killed and third seriously injured when a car plowed into a group gathered on the side of the road after a church service in northern Maryland. Cpl. Jennifer Bailey of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office says a 63-year-old driver was trying to park her Mercury Mountaineer along the roadway late Sunday morning. She says the car accelerated and backed into the people who were crossing the road in Emmitsburg. The driver also hit two cars.
