- Ty Wigginton and Garrett Atkins homered Saturday, but the New York Yankees roughed up Jeremy Guthrie in the early innings and scored a 5-3 victory at George M. Steinbrenner Field. Wigginton hit a two-run shot off Yankees starter Javier Vazquez for his second homer of the spring and Atkins hit his first off Alfredo Aceves, but that was not enough to keep the Orioles from losing for the eighth time in 10 games. The Yankees batted around in the first inning to score three runs on five hits off Guthrie, who settled down enough to work through 3 1/3 innings.

CHICAGO -- The Orioles' four-game series opener last night against the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field was postponed by rain and will be played today as part of a day-night doubleheader. The first game will start at 1:05 p.m., with Brian Burres (2-1, 3.63 ERA) starting for the Orioles against White Sox left-hander John Danks (2-1, 3.04). In Game 2 , which will get under way at 7:05 p.m., Steve Trachsel (1-3, 5.23) will oppose Nick Masset (0-0, 3.75). Last night's game was stopped with one out in the bottom of the first inning after Burres retired White Sox leadoff man Nick Swisher on a come-backer.

The Cubs still could make a splash this winter. They are in a big group of teams that is exploring a deal with Cuban left-hander Aroldis Chapman (left), who had a tryout last weekend in Houston. He's a potential front-of-the-rotation starter and could get to the big leagues in a hurry. … Are the Yankees quietly stalking Matt Holliday? They have insisted they aren't, but others aren't as sure. The Cardinals are remaining patient in their talks with Holliday, who doesn't appear to have generated a big market elsewhere.
