The meeting had been planned weeks ago but given Angelos' increased role, Malone and Gillick thought it unnecessary.

SEATTLE -- Eric Davis emerged from the trainer's room yesterday with his uniform in place. There was heat on his left shoulder and his right hamstring was wrapped as if it contained some priceless keepsake. In two steps, Davis explained his entire season. Healthy, he has been able to carry his new team. Most times, he has carried the heat pack. The Orioles entered their three-game return match against the Seattle Mariners last night still waiting for Davis and Co. to heal. Such mundane things as a steal or even a hit-and-run have become rare for the hobbled Orioles.
