Two for Abreu Bobby Abreu was just 2-for-15 against the Orioles' Jeremy Guthrie heading into Thursday's game. Abreu proceeded to drive in four of the Angels' five runs with two long balls. He hit a solo shot in the fourth inning and a three-run blast in the fifth, two of Guthrie's few mistakes over seven otherwise solid innings. Bats kept at bay Thirty-two straight Orioles had been retired spanning Wednesday and Thursday's games when Robert Andino reached on a line single off Angels starter John Lackey with two outs in the third.

In one of his rare public admissions of frustration, Orioles manager Dave Trembley said before Friday's series opener against the Atlanta Braves that he is worn out by having to answer the same questions and wishes everybody would just "turn the page." But Trembley has been around the game long enough to know that simply won't happen until his team does the same and finds a way to break an offensive slump that has put a stranglehold on its season. The Orioles had their leadoff runner on in five of their first six innings and six of nine overall.

WASHINGTON -- The Orioles won't know whether Koji Uehara will make his next start until Tuesday, when the right-hander is scheduled to throw a bullpen session at Camden Yards. Uehara, who has been the Orioles' most effective starter, left Saturday's start against the Washington Nationals after three innings because of a sore left hamstring. Uehara, who has a history of hamstring problems and was sidelined for two weeks with a similar injury this spring, is tentatively scheduled to start Thursday at home against the Detroit Tigers.

The starting pitching woes of their parent club have been well documented, but the Double-A Bowie Baysox certainly cannot relate to the Orioles' problems. For all the talk about Eastern League Most Valuable Player Lou Montanez and top prospect Matt Wieters, the Baysox's rotation has been the backbone of the Southern Division champions. Bowie will start its playoff run tomorrow as a best-of-five series against the Akron Aeros begins at Prince George's Stadium. "There's been great continuity," Baysox pitching coach Mike Griffin said.
