Food **1/2 (2 1/2 stars) Service *** (3 stars) Atmosphere *** (3 stars) When I last ate at Jasmine Asian Bistro three years ago, it was in Towson. With the move to the new Shops at Quarry Lake, the place has upgraded itself. Jasmine is a prettier restaurant now. The contemporary dining room is filled with lots of warm wood, big windows and well-spaced, white-clothed tables. The biggest difference is probably that Jasmine now has a liquor license, not to mention endless free parking in the shopping center's lot. It also doesn't have the competition from other Asian restaurants that it did in Towson.

Jasmine Asian Bistro (2592 Quarry Lake Drive, 410-484-5170) opened a couple of weeks ago in the Shops at Quarry Lake off Greenspring Avenue. Yes, it's the same Jasmine that used to be in Towson, only it has a liquor license in its new incarnation, which it didn't when I reviewed it. The menu is a mixed bag. It's not fusion, but there are sushi and Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese dishes. These are served in a contemporary setting with handsome hard woods, pretty little light fixtures and an Oriental rug or two. Lunch and dinner are served Monday through Friday, with dinner all day on the weekends.

Ratcheting up the cute factor several more notches, Mayor Sheila Dixon is airing a new television ad that focuses on her family, specifically her children. The 30-second spot is Dixon's sixth and the 11th overall in the race. What the ad says: Dixon's children, Josh and Jasmine, are seen talking on a porch. "I'm Josh, the mayor's son," he begins. "Mayor?" Jasmine teases, "You mean ma?" Josh continues: "At home, Mom always asks us a lot, makes sure we rise to the occasion." Dixon is seen standing in the front yard of the house and says, "If you don't ask much of people, you can't expect much."

If there was one soul in the world Jasmine Borum could turn to, it was her grandmother. When Jasmine clashed with her mother, got expelled from high school and rebelliousness took hold, it was Pauline Borum who took Jasmine in, no questions asked. And when Jasmine, 17, felt the world was against her, she knew her grandmother, known affectionately as Nana, wouldn't leave her side. Tuesday morning, grandmother and granddaughter were found dead in their home in the 6100 block of MacBeth Drive in Northeast Baltimore, paralyzing their family members with grief and sending shock through this quiet street just east of Belvedere Square.
