Matthew R. Powell, a college student and accomplished guitarist, died of undetermined causes Tuesday at his Jarrettsville home. He was 20. "We are waiting the results of an autopsy, and the coroner suggested Matt may have died from an aneurysm or aspiration," said his father, Richard A. Powell, an executive with Erickson Retirement Communities. Mr. Powell was born in Silver Spring and raised in Jarrettsville. He was a 2004 graduate of North Harford High School, where he played varsity soccer.

Wade Hawthorne Gowl, owner of a modular building company and a Jarrettsville horse farm, died Tuesday of complications of Alzheimer's disease at the Continuum Care nursing home in Sykesville. He was 86. The youngest of 13 children, Mr. Gowl was raised in South Baltimore and became a dental technician before founding the Atlantic Trailer Corp. in 1955. Though the Middle River firm went bankrupt in 1978, Mr. Gowl restarted it as Porta-Space Inc. in Shrewsbury, Pa. The companies produced trailers for schools needing temporary classroom, barracks used by troops in Saudi Arabia and modular units that could be stacked atop hospitals wanting to expand.

George W. Tittle, a mortician and retired employment counselor, died of a heart attack Monday at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. He was 69. Mr. Tittle, who was born and raised in Jarrettsville, graduated in 1953 from the former Central Consolidated High School in Hickory. He was a 1955 graduate of Echols College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia, and established Tittle's Funeral Service in Bel Air in 1965. After closing the funeral establishment in the early 1980s, he continued working as a mortician and was associated with the Joseph N. Zannino Jr. Funeral Home in Baltimore.
