Augusta, GA.--MR. JOHN JARRELL WHITELAW, JR., 56, of Evans, died Monday, August 9, 2004, at the Medical College of Georgia. Mr. Whitelaw was a native of Baltimore, MD, and was a US Army veteran. He had over 30 years of Government Service, 9 of which he worked for the Department of Defense at Ft. Gordon, where he was a manager of operations. Mr. Whitelaw was President of ROTC Boosters Club for 2 years, head coach of Columbia Co. Patriots U 19' 81 Girls, a member of Augusta Genealogical Society, coach of Columbia Co. recreation department for soccer, and the recreation sports coordinator for Wesley United Methodist Church.

Ruth W. Jarrell, a retired Baltimore public school dietitian, died of respiratory failure Thursday at Genesis Eldercare Loch Raven Center. She was 84. The longtime Towson resident was born Ruth Wegman in Chicago and moved to Baltimore with her family as a young girl. After graduating from high school, she earned her bachelor's degree in nutrition from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. She worked for many years as a dietitian for the Baltimore public schools, retiring in the 1980s.

Annette B. Jarrell, a retired dental assistant, died of internal bleeding March 27 at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., where she moved last year. The former Rosedale resident was 89. Born Annette B. Hejl in Baltimore and raised on North Montford Avenue, she attended Eastern High School but was forced to leave school during the Great Depression and work as a seamstress at the L. Greif & Brother Clothing Co. She later earned her high school diploma at night school. She also earned a certified dental assistant's diploma and worked with Rosedale dentists and with the Baltimore Health Department at school dental clinics.

A Worcester County teenager died Sunday when his Suzuki motorcycle crashed into a minivan that was trying to make a U-turn on Solley Road in Anne Arundel County, police said. Douglas Robert Jarrell, 19, of the 3000 block of Village Trail in Snow Hill was driving north on Solley Road about 1 p.m. Sunday when he struck the Dodge minivan in front of him, police said. The crash threw Jarrell from his motorcycle and into the minivan. Jarrell suffered head, face and chest injuries and was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, police said.
