The Orioles have agreed to trade reliever Chris Britton to the New York Yankees for starting pitcher Jaret Wright and cash, according to two team sources. While the specifics of the deal have been worked out, the trade won't be official until it gets the commissioner's approval, which is necessary when more than $1 million in cash exchanges hands in a deal. That could happen as early as today. Nationals Acta expected to be named manager, report says. Pg 4d

On the Orioles' starting pitching I wouldn't be surprised if [Daniel] Cabrera won 15-plus, nor would I be surprised if he spent some time in [Triple-A] Norfolk. I don't think [Hayden] Penn will see much of a shot in Baltimore and could see him dealt at the break to a team like the Cubs or Reds. If [Kris] Benson and [Jaret] Wright have decent years (I think they will), the O's starters could be solid. Not spectacular, but solid.

Did the Orioles overpay for former Tigers reliever Jamie Walker? Of course, they did. Three years for approximately $11.5 million? For Jamie Walker? They also did the right thing - not to be confused with the Jaret Wright thing. Why don't I mind that the Orioles made such an extravagant financial commitment to a left-handed setup man? The answer is simple. It's not my money. You want a better bullpen? You want guys willing to play in Baltimore after nine straight losing seasons? It'll cost you. roch.
