On April 12, 2003, MARY LOUISE, beloved daughter of the late William and Susie Carter Downs, devoted wife of the late James Williams, dearest mother of Ruby Williams-Townes, James A. Williams Sr. (wife Ione) and Rev. Dr. Maceo M. Williams (wife Margaret), grandson James A. Williams Jr. (wife Cheryl), grand-daugher April Y. Williams, one great-grand-daughter, eight great-grandsons, numerous cousins and friends. Her only sister Eugenia V. Downs and one grandson Michael R. Ballinger Sr. preceded her in death.

The 20th annual All-State Football Teams for big and small schools were announced Wednesday. The teams were selected through votes by high school football reporters and compiled by Sheldon Shealer of ESPNHS. The big school team includes Class 4A and Class 3A public schools as well as teams from the MIAA A Conference and the WCAC. All others are in the small-school selections. A consensus All-State Team as well as players and coaches of the year will be announed Thursday. The first Swansfield Peace Festival on Saturday will celebrate concern for the environment, random acts of kindness and peace, through singing, dance, poetry and drumming. Swansfield Elementary School Principal Earl Slacum will sing "What About the Children," a Yolanda Adams gospel song. Performers are to include SGI (Soka Gakkai International) Women African Drummers, a Buddhist organization; SGI Korean Women Drummers and the Washington Chorus. Swansfield children will present conflict-resolution skits and read poems.

A Pasadena couple turned themselves in to police after investigators searched their apartment this month and seized marijuana, steroids and drug paraphernalia, police say.Anthony James Williams, 27, of the 400 block of Virginia Ave., was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and steroids. Crystal Ann McCoy, 20, of the same address, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.According to the police report, narcotics officers at the Eastern District station received many complaints about drug trafficking at the couple's apartment.
