A 63-year-old Glen Burnie woman was killed yesterday afternoon after she went through a red light on Route 2 and broadsided a tractor-trailer truck carrying 8,000 gallons of gasoline.The woman, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was heading north at 2:10 p.m. in a 1981 Plymouth Reliant when she went through the intersection at Route 2 and Mountain Road.Police said the woman hit a gas tank under the truck's cab, causing a small amount of gas to spill onto the road. The truck's main tank was not damaged.

A 33-year-old Dundalk man received a 12-year prison sentence yesterday for stabbing his girlfriend last July as she held their 2-year-old daughter, then barring her escape from their apartment for 13 hours.James Russell Campbell of the 2900 block of Yorkway was convicted in December of the attempted murder of 30-year-old Debora Veronica Gotschall.An argument between the two began about 1 p.m. July 5 and escalated until Campbell threatened to kill them all with a loaded shotgun, then stabbed the victim four times, according to Assistant State's Attorney Sandy Williams.

Freddie Douglas Russell Sr., a retired machinist, church deacon and Vietnam veteran, died Jan. 7 of multiple organ failure at Northwest Hospital Center. The Woodlawn resident was 64. He enlisted in the Army soon after graduating from Carver High School and served in Vietnam from 1964 to 1966. Exposure to Agent Orange during his two tours of duty caused lifelong health problems, his family said. After his discharge from the military, he worked as a machinist for Continental Can, Revere Copper and Crown, Cork & Seal.

The Oregon-bound senior clocked a time of 4 minutes, 4.09 seconds at states, which set a record in the 1,600, as he won convincingly against a talented field. Coach of the Year Nigel Holder Meade The top-ranked Mustangs were strong all season, answering every challenge and winning the Anne Arundel County, regional and Class 4A state titles.

A Pennsylvania man and a Bowie woman were arrested on drug charges early yesterday after a Southern District officer found 52 grams of suspected marijuana in the car they were riding in, county police said.Officer Francis Tewey stopped a 1988 Chevrolet for speeding about 2 a.m. at the intersection of Solomons Island Road and Forest Drive. He arrested the driver -- identified as James Russell Wilson, 21, of Andover, Pa. -- after learning his driver's license was suspended. Officer Tewey searched the car and found a suspected marijuana cigarette in the ash tray and more suspected marijuana and a pipe in a small wooden container, police said.

A police chase across the Maryland-Delaware line ended with minor injuries to two Maryland state troopers and a 22-year-old motorist. The chase began about 9: 30 a.m. yesterday on westbound U.S. 40 when the driver fled after his vehicle was stopped by Delaware state troopers on an unspecified traffic offense, Maryland State Police said. Maryland troopers picked up the 75-mph pursuit in Elkton, where several troopers tried to block the man's car from proceeding west, east of Marley Road.

Baltimore County police are looking for a man who fled the scene of a Rosedale shooting early Wednesday morning that left one man dead and another seriously wounded, according to a spokesman. Officers arrived at an apartment in the 5200 block of Daybrook Circle about 1 a.m. and found one of its residents, Leroy Antonio Austin, 22, with a life-threatening gunshot wound, said Baltimore County police spokesman Cpl. Mike Hill. He was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in serious condition.
