Also survived by eleven brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Lassahn Funeral Home (Overlea), 7401 Belair Road, on Friday 11 A.M. Offensive coordinator James Franklin said coaches relied on empirical data - performance charts, basically - to show how things tipped in favor of Jordan Steffy. "We just basically told [Chris Turner] the truth. We showed him all the data," Franklin said. "He sees it every day because it's posted in the locker room every day, so he kind of had an awareness of what was going on. The data documented everything we were saying." Quarterback Chris Turner spends countless minutes during games talking to offensive coordinator James Franklin on the headset. Franklin watches games from the box where he can see plays unfold. Here's the thing. Franklin is known for being extremely animated. But on the headset, Franklin is as sedate as an airplane pilot. He doesn't want his quarterback getting too high or low during the game. "Sometimes, I go to the phone and I expect him to rip me and then I feel a lot better" when he doesn't, Turner said.

Man charged in sale of prescription drugsA Brooklyn Park man was charged with illegally selling prescription drugs after police searched his home late Wednesday.According to the police report, officers searched the home of James Franklin Crites, 51, in the 600 block of Biscay Ave. at 10:40 p.m. and seized illegal prescription pain killers and other drugs.Investigators said Mr. Crites sold the drugs to undercover officers shortly before the raid. He was also charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

The NCAA has given Maryland and Texas a one-year reprieve from a new rule that limits off-campus football recruiting by a coach designated as the head coach-in-waiting. That will allow Maryland offensive coordinator James Franklin and Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp to fully participate in the spring evaluation period in April and May. The new rule says coaches "publicly designated" to be the next head coach are bound by the same recruiting rules as the current head coach.

* Wendell James Franklin, 78, who worked his way from parking cars in the NBC lot to guiding such talents as Bill Cosby, died of cancer July 22 in Los Angeles. Franklin, who became the first black member of the Directors Guild of America in 1960, was stage manager for live television shows including "The Jerry Lewis Show," "The Nat King Cole Show" and "This Is Your Life." also helped direct "McMillan and Wife," "Green Hornet" and the 1969-71 "Bill Cosby Show." He was assistant director on "The Greatest Story Ever Told" and "Funny Girl."

Final funeral services conducted Monday in Darlington, SC, by the Jordan Funeral Home.
