A man accused of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend in 2013 was unable to attend his own trial in Baltimore County Tuesday after he refused to wear a stun cuff. Jeffrey Matthew Shiflett, 35, charged with murdering Katie Hadel, 33, missed opening statements after Circuit Judge Ruth Ann Jakubowski ordered that he wear an ankle bracelet that can deliver an electric shock. Jakubowski made the order after Shiflett screamed the judge's first name repeatedly and attempted to enter her chambers as he was being escorted to the courtroom before the trial.

JAKUBOWSKI, SR, aged 82 of Timonium; beloved husband of the late Rita Helen (nee Forysiak) Jakubowski; devoted father of Jan Marie Kohler and her husband Michael, Edward M. Jakubowski, Jr. and his wife Monica and Paul R. Jakubowski and his wife Maricar; brother of Constance Marciszewski and her husband Daniel. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the family owned Peaceful Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Center, P.A. 2325 York Road, Timonium, on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 2nd at the St. Joseph Church, 101 Church Lane Cockeysville, beginning at 10 A.M. Interment to follow in the Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.

Angela is survived by her husband Thomas Roberts, daughter Carly Roberts, sons Ensign Brent Tysinger USN and Petty Officer 3rd Class Eric Tysinger USN, sisters Theresa Zerhusen, Mary Jakubowski and husband Gilbert, Jeanne Quill and husband Gary, along with nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial for Leonard J. Jakubowski, an engineering assistant at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, will be offered at 9 a.m. today at the Roman Catholic Shrine of the Little Flower.Mr. Jakubowski, who was 73 and lived on Juneway, died Monday at University Hospital of kidney and liver failure after being injured in an automobile accident Dec. 28.He worked in the calibration laboratory at the Hopkins institution and most recently calibrated instruments for the U.S.-French Topex satellite scheduled to study the oceans in 1992.

Gilbert J. Jakubowski Sr., a retired auditor and former longtime Ednor Gardens resident, died Tuesday of colon cancer at a hospital in Virginia Beach, Va. He was 72. Mr. Jakubowski was raised in Fells Point. He was a graduate of Patterson Park High School and served as a master sergeant in the Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954. After graduating from a Baltimore accounting school, Mr. Jakubowski worked as an auditor at The Sun and Coca-Cola. He later took a job with Retail Grocery Inventory Specialist, and was transferred in 1979 to Virginia Beach.

If Bob Broccolino ever decides to leave his position as softball coach at Glen Burnie, he surely could find work as a juggler.He's gained valuable on-the-job training the past two years while rotating players through an ever-changing lineup disrupted by various injuries and illnesses.Meanwhile, one player in the county who was a constant at her position this season was Chesapeake hurler Amy Jakubowski, who won 10 games and batted a team-high .507.Broccolino led his team to the region finals, while Jakubowski's Cougars took their second consecutive4A state championship.
