Injuries continue to dog the Ravens secondary, but the unit will welcome back one prominent player for Monday night's contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Rookie cornerback Jimmy Smith (high left ankle sprain) is active after fully practicing Friday and Saturday. Smith probably won't overtake starters Cary Williams and Lardarius Webb on the depth chart, but the club's first-round pick in April will likely be the fifth defensive back in the team's nickel package. The defense will play without cornerback Chris Carr and starting strong safety Tom Zbikowski.

Bernard Pollard confirmed The Sun's report on Friday that the NFL had fined the strong safety $10,000 for a hit on Jacksonville Jaguars running back Deji Karim in the third quarter of the Ravens' 12-7 loss a week ago. Although it was not a helmet-to-helmet hit, an NFL spokesman said that Pollard was fined specifically for striking a defenseless player in the head and neck area on a pass play. Pollard, who was already irritated at an official's ruling that he had taunted Arizona Cardinals tight end Jeff King after pushing him out of bounds Sunday, didn't require much prompting to sound off on the fine.

The Ravens confirmed what Tom Zbikowski suggested Saturday by listing the starting strong safety as doubtful for Monday night's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Coach John Harbaugh said Zbikowski - who has been dogged by symptoms stemming from the concussion he sustained in the Ravens' 17-point win against the New York Jets on Oct. 2 - still has not been cleared for contact. Zbikowski practiced on a limited basis for the second time this week, but he was kept out of all contact drills.

Seven days from now, the Ravens will meet the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night before a national television audience. The Ravens have not played host to a Monday night game since Dec. 3, 2007 when the New England Patriots escaped M&T Bank Stadium with a 27-24 win. Since then, the Ravens have participated in five Monday night contests, and all have taken place on the road. Asked to comment on the disparity, coach John Harbaugh - who is dealing with questions about his brother Jim's controversial post-game handshake with Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz Sunday - responded with a quip of his own. “Aren't we in enough controversy with the family right now to be involved in that?

Monday night's contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars is a road game for the Ravens, but EverBank Field will feel a little bit like home for rookie defensive end Pernell McPhee. The club's second of two fifth-round picks in April, McPhee will have about 25 family members in attendance. McPhee's mother, grandmother and great-grandmother are expected to be part of a contingent making the 289-mile trip by car (according to Mapquest.com) from Pahokee, Fla. “I know they're going to be real excited,” McPhee said after the team's practice Saturday.

Brendon Ayanbadejo joked that he has been walking around the halls of the Ravens' training facility a little slower because his pockets are full with money the inside linebacker thought he had lost. On Friday, Ayanbadejo confirmed what he had written on his Twitter account, verifying that the NFL informed coach John Harbaugh that Ayanbadejo should not have been ejected from Monday night's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and that he will not be fined for striking right tackle Guy Whimper.
