Ravens coach John Harbaugh has been nearly perfect at challenging plays this season, winning five of six challenges - including two in Monday night's 12-7 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. During his weekly news conference Tuesday, Harbaugh shared what went into the process of succeeding at challenges. “Well, sometimes it depends on what you chose to challenge,” he said. “This year, the way it's turned out is that the things we've chosen to challenge have been critical-type plays that we've had pretty clear looks at, for the most part.

Blocking a potential interview with a competing team, the Jacksonville Jaguars moved swiftly in signing James Harris as their vice president of player personnel yesterday. Harris, the Ravens' pro personnel director since 1997, was to interview for the Seattle Seahawks' general manager position today but instead flew to Jacksonville on Wednesday night and agreed to a contract yesterday morning. The hiring comes two weeks after the Jaguars initiated their search - one in which Ravens director of college scouting Phil Savage, Buffalo Bills assistant general manager Tom Modrak, former Jacksonville personnel director Rick Reiprish and Harris interviewed for the job. Savage was the team's first choice, but he and Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver could not agree on contract terms late last week.

Injuries continue to dog the Ravens secondary, but the unit will welcome back one prominent player for Monday night's contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Rookie cornerback Jimmy Smith (high left ankle sprain) is active after fully practicing Friday and Saturday. Smith probably won't overtake starters Cary Williams and Lardarius Webb on the depth chart, but the club's first-round pick in April will likely be the fifth defensive back in the team's nickel package. The defense will play without cornerback Chris Carr and starting strong safety Tom Zbikowski.
