Three years ago, a label-weary Imogen Heap struck off on her own. The British electro-pop artist had two albums by then - one under her name and one with a collaboration called Frou Frou - and her record companies had muzzled both of them. "Our side of the deal is give a great record and be available for promotion," Heap said. "Their side of the deal is to do something with it and spend money and put their money where their mouth is. And they didn't do that. Twice. In a row. With two different labels.

Armed with potato salad, making the annual Mother's Day trek to her mother's home with her grown children, Imogene Moore Peterson expects she'll start worrying about the rest of her "kids." Are they treating themselves to something special today? Will someone watch their babies so they can get their hair done? Are they using the bath and body lotions she gave them? Have they displayed the beautiful Mother's Day cards they helped their toddlers make? Will they acknowledge their own motherhood with satisfaction?
