A Woodlawn man and his girlfriend have pleaded guilty to fraud and identity theft charges in a federal case that compromised the personal information of more than 250 people - including doctors who applied for fellowships at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where the girlfriend worked. Derrick Hill, 52, was the "ringleader" of a group of four people - including his girlfriend, Renee Cabell, 51, and co-defendants John Coffey and Tawney King, who have also pleaded guilty - that stole more than $188,000 in cash, merchandise and services through their scheme between August and October 2009, according to a statement from the Maryland U.S. State's Attorney's Office.

On a recent Saturday night at Banditos, the taco and tequila bar located in the heart of Federal Hill's party scene, inconsistent service overshadowed the Tex-Mex spot's laid-back vibe. While some details were easy to enjoy (portions of the decor, music selection and, most importantly, the drinks), the overall experience was not. The central problem seemed to be the underprepared (or undermanned) bar staff, which grew noticeably frustrated by the steady - but not overwhelming - weekend rush.

After closing in April for renovations, the 13th Floor in Mount Vernon's the Belvedere will reopen at 4 p.m. on Thursday, according to a press release. Unhappy with its inconsistent "experience," the Belvedere Restaurant Group (BRG, which also operates the Owl Bar) used the renovation period as a time to refocus the 13th Floor, on top of giving it a new look. For example: The weekend's live music (one of the bar's former issues, as it often varied in style and genre from night-to-night)

Each week, Baltimore Sun reporters Aaron Wilson and Matt Vensel will look back at the Ravens' previous game and that of their next opponent. Here's a look at the Ravens' 24-23 loss to the Eagles. (For a look at the Patriots' game against Arizona, click here .) Eagles 24, Ravens 23 Strategy: An identity crisis unfolded as the Ravens' no-huddle offense was minimized to six plays out of 65 snaps - just two after halftime and none in fourth quarter. A potential game-controlling, smash-mouth approach strangely was abandoned in short-yardage situations, despite ideal personnel to run isolation plays out of the rarely-used I-formation.

During Jon Marans' "The Temperamentals," the season-opening play by Rep Stage about the gay rights movement, a woman raises the subject of marriage. "I definitely do not believe in homosexuals marrying," she says. She isn't talking about same-sex marriage, though, since the play is set in the severely closeted 1950s. "Back then, people were arguing about whether gay men should marry women," Marans said. "There was no concept that something like same-sex marriage was on the horizon.

By virtue of defeating Maryland, 9-3, in the NCAA tournament final on Memorial Day and capturing the national championship, Loyola has gone from unknown and overlooked to recognized and celebrated. And as the reigning national titlist in 2013, the Greyhounds will no longer be the hunters, but the hunted. And if that's supposed to worry coach Charley Toomey, he didn't verbalize those concerns. “That's really what made this team so unique. It didn't matter what the label was because they didn't care,” he said.

Tom Morgan tried to file his federal tax return electronically this year, but he kept getting an error message that advised him to double-check his Social Security number. Morgan thought the problem was a transposed digit or some minor glitch on the IRS' end, something he has experienced before. "It was a very generic error message," he says. "No urgency, no 'You're in big trouble now.'" Morgan says he didn't know until reading my column a couple of weeks ago that taxpayers receive this message after a thief has used their identity to file a bogus tax return and collect a refund.
