I enjoyed your article regarding ice creams from local farms ("Cream of the crop," June 27). The only thing that turned me off was the third cow from the left in your picture, which looked like a "downed" cow. But I'm assuming it was not, since the barn looks very clean and the other cows look well cared for. Please do more articles and interest stories on vegetarian restaurants, organic farmer's markets, organic farms and compassion for animals'...

It's a beautiful Saturday at Prigel Family Creamery. The sun shines on cows ambling over the field, while parents gaze lovingly at sticky kids squealing with delight as they lick giant scoops of ice cream. Inside the creamery, where clean-cut teenagers make ice cream floats and thick milkshakes, a board lists more than two dozen flavors of homemade ice cream. Customers peer through windows, hoping to catch a glimpse of happy cow. It's 2012, but it could just as easily be 1952. The Prigel family has been farming in the Long Green Valley area of Baltimore County for more than 100 years.

Our engagement party was this weekend, and it was fantastic. My future mother and father in-law hosted, and they nailed it. The party began mid-afternoon, and we spent the day eating Andy Nelson's BBQ, playing corn hole and bocce and sipping Prosecco in the glorious 75-and-sunny weather. I think sometimes engagement parties can be a little stuffy. Standing in a swanky bar eating crostini and chatting about place settings would not be nearly as fun (to me) as wiping BBQ off my face while watching my 85,000 younger siblings lose their minds when the rented ice cream truck pulled up. (Because my genius MIL rented an ice cream truck.

After earning a split in New York to start their Eastern Conference semifinal series, it would appear that things are setting up nicely for the Washington Capitals. They return home to Verizon Center as the series against the New York Rangers shifts venues for games 3 and 4. But if there's one thing this spring's Stanley Cup playoffs have shown, it's that home ice is an advantage in name only. Road squads are 34-21 this postseason through Monday's games. The Capitals are 4-2 on the road and 1-2 at home.

Capitals Ovechkin says he's fine with reduced ice time The Washington Capitals entered the third period of Game 4 on Thursday night with a one-goal lead, and as the Boston Bruins pushed in an attempt to tie the NHL Eastern Conference quarterfinal contest, coach Dale Hunter turned to his most defensively responsible forwards to carry the load down the stretch of the 2-1 victory. Star left wing Alex Ovechkin played only 1 minute, 58 seconds in the final period and just 15 seconds in the final 14 minutes of regulation.

I'm seeing reports on social media of snow and sleet showers in the suburbs, including northwestern Howard County and near Pikesville. Officially, the only wintry weather expected in the forecast is in Western Maryland, with up to an inch expected today near Deep Creek Lake, according to the National Weather Service. But with temperatures barely breaking 50 degrees and cold air coming in on the jet stream from Canada, any showers of precipitation today could be snow or ice. It's not totally unusual -- Baltimore has seen at least a trace of snow in April four out of the past 10 years.

It's Titanic time. As the world pauses to remember the great calamity of April 14-15, 1912, two area restaurants are re-creating the last meal — or at least some aspects of it — for the 100th anniversary. Langermann's in Canton is offering a special Titanic dinner Thursday through Saturday night. And in Annapolis, the Flying Dog Brewery is teaming with the Rockfish on Saturday night for a "Ghosts of the Titanic" beer dinner. There will be Titanic dinners all over the world this weekend, and most of them will be informed by "Last Dinner On the Titanic: Menus and Recipes from the Great Liner," an attempt to re-create the 10-course meal served to first-class passengers on the ship's last night.
