The ramp from northbound I-83 to the inner loop of the Baltimore Beltway closed Thursday afternoon to reconstruct Wednesday's fatal accident that claimed the life of a 5-year-old boy but has reopened, authorities say. The accident occurred about 3 p.m. Wednesday when a sport utility vehicle rear-ended a sedan occupied by a man, his wife and their two children. A 9-year-old girl suffered a broken leg and remains hospitalized along her parents. Their son, Jake Owen, was killed in the crash.

Accidents were slowing traffic on Route 100 eastbound at Snowden River Parkway in Howard County, at Wards Chapel Road and Marriottsville Road in Howard County, and on I-95 southbound approaching the Baltimore Beltway in Baltimore City. There were no major delays reported on local transit systems.

A member of Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake's security detail and a motorist were injured Monday evening in an accident on the Jones Falls Expressway, according to a statement from Det. Jeremy Silbert, a police spokesman. The officer was southbound in an unmarked SUV about 8:30, returning to City Hall, when the vehicle was struck at the Guilford Avenue exit by another vehicle, the statement said. The mayor was not in the SUV. Both drivers were taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment of injuries police called non-life threatening.

A series of chain-reaction collisions Sunday morning shut down southbound lanes of Interstate 83 in Baltimore between Northern Parkway and Cold Spring Lane, Baltimore police said. Police said the first incident was a 10-car chain-reaction collision that happened shortly before 8 a.m. Moments later, they added, a single-vehicle crash and then a five-vehicle pileup occurred in the same area. No serious injuries were reported and no one was hospitalized, police said. The causes of the crashes were not immediately known, police said.
