A single-vehicle collision in Baltimore County on the inner loop of 695 at the Pulaski Highway exit has closed the right inner loop shoulder at 9:13 a.m., on Thursday, said the state Department of Transportation. The Maryland Transit Administration is reporting minor delays on the MARC train at 9:15 a.m.

A single-vehicle crash in Baltimore County on the outer loop of Interstate 695 past the Interstate 70 exit has closed the right traffic lane and the right traffic shoulder at 8:53 a.m., on Monday, according to the state Department of Transportation. Three outer loop traffic lanes and the left outer loop shoulder are moving unimpeded adjacent to the incident, DOT said. The Maryland Transit Administration has reported minor delays on the MARC train at 9 a.m.

A $47 million project to add a lane to the outer loop of the Baltimore Beltway between Frederick Road and the Interstate 95 interchange in southwest Baltimore County is on schedule and should be completed by spring 2004, state officials said yesterday. An estimated 170,000 drivers use the section -- between Halethorpe and Catonsville -- every day, making it among the most heavily traveled segments of the Beltway. The lane expansion is one of several projects designed to smooth travel on Interstate 695, including replacement bridges at Dulaney Valley and Providence roads.

Michael Desales Byrne Jr., 64, of Anne Arundel County has been identified by the Maryland Transportation Authority as the motorcyclist who was killed Thursday on Interstate 695 in Curtis Bay. Byrne, of the 7600 block of Briar Lane in Pasadena, was in the southbound slow lane about 7:40 p.m. when he lost control of his motorcycle, hit the barrier, re-entered the slow lane and was struck by a tractor-trailer. He died at the scene. Lori Vidil, a spokeswoman for the Maryland Transportation Authority, said yesterday that authority police are investigating the incident.

A man trying to cross eastbound Interstate 695 in Woodlawn was killed last night in a hit-and-run incident, state police said. According to Sgt. Steve Seipp, the victim was crossing I-695 under the Crosby Road overpass about 9:30 p.m. when he was struck by a white van. The man was thrown several feet in the air and landed on another eastbound van before he fell in the middle lane of the three-lane highway, Seipp said. Then, he was hit by another vehicle, Seipp said. The body was taken to the state medical examiner's office in Baltimore for an autopsy and identification.

Boonsboro man, 24, dies in I-695 motorcycle crash A 24-year-old Boonsboro man was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a guardrail on a Baltimore Beltway off-ramp in Glen Burnie late Wednesday night, Maryland State Police said. Robert Dabbondanza's motorcycle slipped through the guardrail and slid about 130 feet on the off-ramp from Interstate 695 to Route 2, police said. It was unclear yesterday whether he had been wearing a helmet. Dabbondanza was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where he was pronounced dead shortly after the 11:50 p.m. accident, police said.

A tractor-trailer overturned on a Baltimore Beltway ramp to Interstate 83 yesterday, strewing sheets of plywood across the road and snarling morning traffic for nearly six hours.The truck driver was charged in the single-vehicle accident and taken before a court commissioner after he refused to sign the citation, Maryland State Police said. No one was injured in the accident, which occurred at 5: 35 a.m. one year and a day after a gasoline tanker truck crashed on the same ramp -- from I-695 east to I-83 north -- and burned, killing its driver.

State Highway Administration officials will be closing ramps on the Jones Falls Expressway (Interstate 83) and the Baltimore Beltway (Interstate 695) during the next few days for roadwork.From 9 p.m. today to 5 a.m. tomorrow, the inner loop ramp from the JFX northbound to eastbound I-695 will be closed. One lane will be closed at 7 p.m. when crews begin work, officials said.Motorists will be directed to follow the outer loop, westbound I-695, to Exit 22 at Greenspring Avenue, then loop back to eastbound I-695.

If the weather has behaved, drivers should see a new ramp from northbound Interstate 95 to Interstate 695 in White Marsh today. The Maryland Transportation Authority planned to close lanes along I-95 and I-695 last night through this morning to open the ramp. Signs notified the 19,000 motorists who use that interchange daily about the new ramp, which exits I-95 from the right lane and enters I-695 from the right. The old ramp, constructed 45 years ago, had drivers exit I-95 and enter I-695 from the left.

A three-vehicle collision in Baltimore County on the inner loop of Interstate 695 at Liberty Road has closed one of four traffic lanes and the right merge lane at 8:53 a.m., according to the state Department of Transportation. Morning-long minor delays on the MARC train continued through 9 a.m., according to the Maryland Transit Administration.

Two collisions in Baltimore suburbs, including a three-vehicle collision in Anne Arundel County, have forced lane closures during Monday morning's rush hour, according to the state Department of Transportation. The three-vehicle wreck in Anne Arundel County, on the inner loop of Interstate 695 prior to the Interstate 97 exit, has closed one of three inner loop traffic lanes and one of two inner loop traffic shoulders, DOT said. A collision between a motorcycle and a car on the outerloop of Interstate 695 in Parkville late Saturday morning temporarily closed all outerloop lanes and sent the motorcyclist to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in critical condition, according to Maryland State Police. State troopers responded to the accident scene, near Perring Parkway, about 11:36 a.m. and found the motorcyclist seriously injured, police said. No one else was injured in the collision, police said. The motorcyclist was transported to Shock Trauma by a state police medevac helicopter, police said.

A disabled vehicle closed a shoulder on the inner loop of I-695 at Wilkens Avenue at 9:04 a.m. Thursday, according to the state Department of Tranportation In Harford County, DOT reported a two-vehicle crash shut a shoulder around 7:39 a.m. on southbound I-95 past the exit for Route 152. Accidents were bogging down the Thursday morning commute in the city and in Baltimore County, police said. In the city, northbound traffic on Martin Luther King Boulevard was being detoured onto West Fayette Street after an accident between Fayette and Saratoga streets, and police were calling the traffic impact "severe. " Drivers were also being asked to steer clear of North Charles Street near Chestnut Avenue in Baltimore County, where a pedestrian was reported struck by a car Thursday morning, police said.

A scheduled 6:30 a.m. opening of the Curtis Bay drawbridge to allow for Coast Guard water traffic to pass beneath caused major traffic back-ups on Interstate 695 in both directions Friday morning. The drawbridge had closed by 6:59 a.m. and traffic was again flowing as of about 7:15 a.m., according to the Maryland Transportation Authority. However, there is a second scheduled opening of the drawbridge at 9:30 a.m., the authority said. An authority dispatcher said he could not estimate how long the second opening will last, because that depends on the type of watercraft moving through the span and water conditions at the time.

Motorists already struggling with traffic on the north side of Interstate 695 can look forward to another headache starting tomorrow. Work will begin on replacement of the Providence Road bridge over the Beltway to make ready for a future widening of the loop's busy north side. The $3.5 million project will continue until September 2001, weather permitting, causing periodic night and early-morning lane closures on the Beltway. Providence Road will remain open during construction, although lanes might be shifted or single lanes closed.
