When Nick Liddil scored with nine seconds left in Ohio State's 9-4 loss to Loyola in an Eastern College Athletic Conference men's lacrosse showdown Saturday, it was a footnote in a contest that had been decided much earlier. Try telling that to the Greyhounds. As they walked off the field at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, several defensive players were unhappy about Liddil's goal and shared their displeasure with teammates. "A big thing we've been talking about all year is finishing the game on the offensive side and defensive side," junior defenseman Joe Fletcher said.

Peter Young Martin, a former golf professional and Green Spring Valley Hunt Club champion, died of a respiratory illness March 31 at Gilchrist Hospice Care in Towson. The Owings Mills resident was 64. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of John William Young Martin and Nancy Byers Martin. He was raised at the family home, Snow Hill Farm, site of the Maryland Hunt Cup point-to-point race in the Worthington Valley in Baltimore County. Mr. Martin attended the Gilman Lower School and was a 1966 graduate of Avon Old Farms School in Avon, Conn.

A warm-up to seasonable early spring weather is in the forecast for this weekend, but rain could arrive for any egg hunts and picnics scheduled for Easter Sunday. Saturday is forecast to be a nice day to be outside, with highs around 60, calm winds and clear, sunny skies. Temperatures could stay as mild for Easter Sunday, as well, but any Easter egg hunts set for around midday or later could be wet. A 60 percent chance of showers is forecast from around noon into the evening, according to the National Weather Service.

The expansive lawn in front of the Sherwood Farm mansion at Cromwell Valley Park is usually deserted in March, although sometimes a cardinal or other winged visitors perch in shrubbery. That will change Saturday morning, March 30, when hundreds of children descend on the grounds for the 18th annual Easter egg hunt, seeking candy-filled plastic eggs or to show off paper-plate Easter bonnets they have made Youngsters and adults will also admire rabbits brought by 4-H Club members, dye hard-boiled eggs, greet the Easter Bunny and more.

Epic Games Inc., a North Carolina-based video game manufacturer, closed its office in Baltimore County last month, laying off 40 employees, Maryland's Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation said Thursday. Epic announced in August it was opening Impossible Studios in Hunt Valley, hiring 36 employees, some of whom had lost their jobs months earlier at Big Huge Games of Timonium. Big Huge closed in May after its parent company, 38 Studios, abruptly shut down because of financial problems.

Called to action by the blast of a horn, more than 30 yapping spotted hounds spill down a hill, bound across a country road, leap a fence and rush a faded winter field. On the hound's heels are about two dozen hunters on horseback, men and women in britches and tweed and velvet hats. Motorists, what few there are this deep in the country on a hushed winter morning, a weekday, are slow to take it in. Some stop altogether. For it's something to behold, this pageant of beasts and man -- a scene from another time, another place.

The second in the Historical Society of Harford County's tours of historically significant or interesting buildings and homes in Harford County will take place this Sunday, March 17, at the Elkridge-Harford Hunt Club in Monkton. The clubhouse will be the focus of the day's tour, according to the society. Designed by prominent New York Architect James O'Connor, the clubhouse was built on the foundation of an older structure destroyed by fire. The public is welcome to stop in and see the home of the second oldest recognized foxhunting club in the United States.

Egg hunts are always popular with the little ones, and on the heels of its successful 'Breakfast With Santa' in December, the Lutherville-Timonium Recreation Council is sponsoring its first Easter egg hunt. The hunt is open to preschoolers through fifth-graders and will be held on the grounds of Ridgely Middle School Saturday, March 23, at 10:30 a.m. Should the weather not co-operate, the hunt will move into the gymnasium. Reservations are required and due March 15; consult the rec council's website at http://www.ltrc.org for registration forms and additional information.

Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc.'s stock soared a day after it announced plans to buy 18 television stations owned by Barrington Broadcasting Group for $370 million. The Hunt Valley broadcaster's stock leapt 12.7 percent to end Friday at $15.88 a share. Thursday's announcement was Sinclair's second this week of a planned acquisition. Sinclair had said Monday it would purchase four TV stations from Cox Media Group for $99 million. The 24 Barrington stations — a mix of ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW affiliates — are located in 15 markets ranging from upstate New York to South Carolina and as far west as Colorado.

Will remain among elite Sam Farmer Los Angeles Times Tom Brady's decision to do a bargain-basement extension with the Patriots is remarkable in a business where getting as much as you can is everyone's endgame. But his three-year, $27 million deal figures to pay off for New England in a big way, giving the Patriots a truckload of salary-cap relief that will allow them to remain among the NFL's elite. As long as Brady stays healthy, it's entirely conceivable that he could lead the club to two more Super Bowl s. The rest of the AFC East is in flux, and although there are other threats in the conference the Patriots have the roster and coaching continuity to be knocking on the door every season.
