As the curtain rises on the 1999 baseball season, Tim Walbert, Home Team Sports' relatively new director of production, has an interesting predicament ahead: Make what already may be the best local coverage of a team even better. Consider Walbert up for the challenge, as HTS -- which not only produces the entire Orioles telecast schedule, home and away, broadcast and cable -- has or soon will be adding a number of new pieces of equipment, camera positions, graphics and music to bolster the attack.

There won't be any pity parties for former Home Team Sports baseball analyst Rick Cerone, because he refuses to look at his being replaced in the booth as anything but a positive."

If the end of Rick Cerone's brief tenure as an analyst on Orioles telecasts is in sight, he's not aware of it.At present, Cerone is immersed in the details of getting a $22 million ballpark for his new Newark Bears of the Atlantic League up and running by a planned May launch.Though the rumor circuit has Cerone about to get sacked from the booth after one season, in favor of current Orioles pitching coach Mike Flanagan, he says he's not worried about it."I've heard the stuff about Flanagan, but that doesn't much concern me. That's his option," said Cerone.

For two years, Chris Glass had one of the jobs he had always dreamed of, heading up production for Home Team Sports, and in his hometown to boot. Life was pretty terrific.Things aren't so bad today for Glass -- he serves as executive producer of Florida's Sunshine Network -- but the change of scenery wasn't exactly in his plan."I love it here. The two weeks I've been here have been great, but I was born and raised in Baltimore and I never expected I was going to leave," Glass said this week.
