Anne Arundel County fire officials on Wednesday identified the victim of a Gambrills house fire earlier this month. Blanche Anderson, 92, had been found unconscious by firefighters on the first floor of a home in the 1300 block of Tenbrook Road that was engulfed in flames on Dec. 12, according to the fire department. When firefighters arrived around 5:30 p.m., heavy smoke and flames were reported. A neighbor had called 911 after hearing calls for help coming from another resident, a 15-year-old, who jumped from a second-floor window, fire officials said.

A person died in a house fire early Thursday morning in the Webster Village area of eastern Harford County near Havre de Grace, the spokesman for the State Fire Marshal's Office said. Investigators were still at the home in the 4000 block of U Way and the Office of the State Medical Examiner was en route to the scene, said Bruce Bouch, director of public education and media affairs for the Fire Marshal's Office. Bouch said the first call for the fire in the two-story, Cape Cod style dwelling was received at 4:37 a.m. and the fire went to two alarms for additional manpower.

Two local residents have died in separate house fires this week, including an elderly man in a two-alarm blaze in the Jacksonville-area Thursday morning. According to the Baltimore County Fire department, the fire occurred just after midnight in a single-family home at the 5600 block of Sweet Air Road. Baltimore and Harford county fire officials responded to the heavy fire, and officials said that because there were no hydrants in the area extra crews were called to assist with water, which was shuttled from a nearby natural water source.

Firefighters were called to control a small fire in an Edgewood home Monday morning. Just after 9:30 a.m., Harford County 9-1-1 received a call reporting a fire in the first block of McCann Street in Edgewood. The first unit on the scene reported "smoke visible," according to monitored Harford County emergency radio broadcasts. Fire units from the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company, Abingdon Fire Company and the Aberdeen Proving Ground Fire Department responded, according to a news release from Joppa-Magnolia VFC. The Joppa-Magnolia fire chief was first to arrive and reported a small fire in an enclosed porch attached to a two-story, single family home, according to the release.

A man was rescued this morning by firefighters at a dwelling in Dundalk, officials said. Firefighters dispatched at 5:11 a.m. to the 100 block of Avon Beach Road encountered heavy smoke from a building and upon entering rescued a man from the second floor. He was transported to Bayview Hospital and remained in critical condition late Monday night, officials said. A Maryland man is in critical condition after a house fire in Oxon Hill that caused more than $50,000 in damage. A Prince George's County fire official says firefighters were called to a home in the 5100 block of Boulder Drive around 5:30 a.m. Sunday. Firefighters evacuated an approximately 50-year-old man from the home. He was taken to the hospital with burns smoke inhalation injuries. The man's wife was also taken to the hospital with symptoms of smoke inhalation. Officials say she is in fair condition. Investigators believe the cause of the fire may be a kerosene space heater.

A 47-year-old man is being treated for injuries he sustained in a house fire Saturday afternoon, an Anne Arundel County fire official said. At about 4 p.m. firefighters were called to the 400 block of Blossom Lane in Glen Burnie for a report of a chimney fire, said Battalion Chief Steve Thompson, a fire spokesman. It took 30 firefighters about 30 minutes to get the fire, which was on two stories of the home, under control, Thompson said. The man, the only occupant of the house at the time of the fire, was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with critical injuries, he said.

A Baltimore City resident is being treated at the Bayview Burn Center after suffering injuries in a one-alarm house fire Tuesday morning. According to Baltimore City Fire Department Chief Kevin Cartwright, crews responded to a call at 5:41 a.m. about a fire in a three-story occupied wood frame dwelling in the 5000 block of Belleville Avenue near Milford Avenue in northwest Baltimore. Cartwright said two people from inside the house suffered burn injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics; one was transported to Bayview for additional evaluation and treatment.

A house fire in Anne Arundel County sent two people to the hospital Saturday morning and took 60 fire personnel from four departments half an hour to bring under control, fire officials said. The fire in the 900 block of Malvern Hill Drive in Davidsonville was reported at around 7 a.m. Saturday, Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Michael Pfaltzgraff said. When firefighters arrived they found fire and smoke billowing from the basement, he added. The responding unit called a second alarm, and firefighters from the Annapolis, U.S. Naval Academy and Prince George's County fire departments responded to the scene.
