katherine.dunn@baltsun.com The Notre Dame Prep Girls Lacrosse Tournament wasn't set up to crown an overall winner, but the Century players certainly left Towson at least feeling like champions. And, with county opponents Liberty (April 2), Urbana (April 4) and Walkersville (April 9) on the horizon, it was a good thing to be challenged by such an ambitious non-league schedule. In the second annual three-team, round-robin event on March 30, the No. 10 Knights came way with wins over No. 3 Notre Dame Prep, 12-9, and No. 4 South River, 17-5.

Deep in the cellar beneath the Recher Theatre , Buddy Hilsberg curates a museum of sorts. He's got boxes filled with the silly rider demands of every band that's headlined the Towson club. He's saved pieces of wall signed by everyone from Paul Reed Smith to the English Beat to Dick Dale. He's even got the autographs of bus drivers who brought all these musicians to play. "It's history to me," said the silver-haired manager who's been with the York Road concert hall since it opened 17 years ago. And it's history for everyone else now, too, as the Recher, one of Maryland's smallest but best known live music venues, held its last concert Sunday.

Hofstra owns a 24-18 lead against its Colonial Athletic Association rival, but Towson ended a four-game losing skid with a 10-9 decision in double overtime last year. The No. 19 Pride (6-3, 1-1 in the CAA) have quality wins against No. 1 Notre Dame and Fairfield, but they have also dropped two of their last three contests. Exhaustion could also be a concern for Hofstra, which has played four games in 11 days. The Tigers (5-5, 1-0) have rebounded from a 0-3 start. Thomas DeNapoli has recorded nine goals and five assists in the team's last four contests, and the junior attackman ranks 15th in Division I with 2.7 goals per game.

When the Maryland women's basketball team steps onto the court Monday night for its NCAA tournament second-round game at Comcast Center, the Terps will be without two starters and a reserve because of injury and another starter who's recovering from illness. Maryland (25-7) has withstood playing with diminished numbers for much of the season to earn a No. 4 seed in the Bridgeport (Conn.) Region, and the six to seven players comprising the regular rotation have grown accustomed to performing at their peak despite logging extensive minutes.
