Paul Corsi of Bel Air is celebrating retirement from Horace Mann Educators Corporation. Corsi served as field vice president for market access at Horace Mann. He retired on June 28 after 34 years of service.

Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster on Thursday from 7 to 9 P.M. and on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Healthcare Ministry at St. John Catholic Church, C/O Gay Hart, 43 Monroe Street, Westminster, MD 21157.

Horace Warren Davis Sr., a retired longshoreman and neighborhood and civil rights activist, died April 3 of a heart attack at Bon Secours Hospital. The Edmondson Village resident was 80. Born in Baltimore and raised on Mount Street, Mr. Davis was a graduate of Carver Vocational-Technical High School. During the Korean War, he served as a postman with the Army in Korea. He worked at Bethlehem Steel Corp.'s Sparrows Point plant, Fort Meade and Parks Sausage before becoming a longshoreman on the Baltimore waterfront.

Horace Freeland Judson, the author of a widely praised history of molecular biology who also taught at the Johns Hopkins University, died of a stroke Friday at his Roland Park home. He was 80. For his book "The Eighth Day of Creation," he interviewed nearly 100 scientists he called "makers of the revolution in biology" and told the story of the foundations of modern genetics. "He was a gifted person with a deep understanding of science," said Dr. Paul R. McHugh, a friend who was psychiatrist in chief at Johns Hopkins Hospital from 1975 to 2001.

It's a mark of what goes wrong with Center Stage's production of The Matchmaker that the show's two indelible performances are delivered by actors playing minor roles. Pamela Payton-Wright, as Flora, an addled, aging romantic, and Lawrence O'Dwyer, as the philosopher-rogue Malachi, deliver a master class in acting. Each word seemingly erupts from their hearts and brains. When Payton-Wright carries a teacup across the room, she holds it in front of her as if it were a fragrant bouquet. O'Dwyer even staggers drunkenly in character.
