Homicide detectives are investigating a shooting in West Baltimore that occurred about 7 p.m. Monday, potentially the first fatal shooting in more than a week in the city. The victim, a man who has not yet been identified, was shot in the jaw and leg and was in critical condition, city police said. The shooting was in the 1100 block of N. Stricker Street in the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood. There have been no fatal shootings in the city since Feb. 3, when two people were killed.

Firefighters discovered the body of a woman in the basement of single family home in Northwest Baltimore that caught fire Friday, authorities said. The fire started around 2:30 p.m. in the 5700 block of Highgate Road in the city's Glen neighborhood, according to Chief Kevin Cartwright of the Baltimore City Fire Department. The woman appeared to have suffered burns, but a cause of death has not been determined. Homicide detectives have been called to the home to investigate, according to Baltimore police.

A woman was found killed and two small children located unharmed in Garrison late Tuesday when a Baltimore County Police tactical unit forced its way into a home following a call about a possible domestic dispute. Katie Hadel, 33, had been stabbed multiple times, and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A suspect, Jeffrey Michael Shiflett, also 33, of Annapolis, who had been in a previous relationship with Hadel, was located at 11:02 a.m. Wednesday walking along a road in Reisterstown, and taken into custody without incident, police said.

A man was shot and killed overnight in the unit block of N. Wheeler Ave. in Southwest Baltimore, police said Sunday morning. Police said that at approximately 1 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to the scene for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found 27-year old Christopher Samuels suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. Police said he was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma, where he was pronounced dead at 1:26 a.m. The killing makes seven deaths in a little over seven days in the city.

Police have still not identified a man who died Tuesday after being shot in Northeast Baltimore. A 911 caller found a gunshot victim in the Lauraville neighborhood around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, police said. Around 2:25 a.m., officers responded to a call for shots fired in the 4900 block of Morello Road and canvassed the area, but did not discover a victim. The caller discovered a man in the 2600 block of Southern Avenue. The man was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:21 a.m. Homicide detectives are investigating.

Jurors got to hear Michael Maurice Johnson's account Tuesday of the last time he saw Phylicia Barnes alive, as prosecutors played audio tape of a police interview with the man now charged with killing the 16-year-old. In the Dec. 31, 2010, interview, recorded three days after Phylicia disappeared, Johnson, 28, laid out a sequence of events that matches up with the testimony of others who described interacting with him that day. He said he visited the apartment he once shared with Phylicia's older half-sister, Deena Barnes, to take his younger brother home.

Police released the name of the man killed in a double shooting on Tuesday north of Patterson Park. Justin Lee Milton, 32, of the 5100 block of Lodestone Way, was found shot in the head in the 2500 block of Monument Street Tuesday night. About a half hour later, he was pronounced dead at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Police found him while investigating reports of gunshots in the 600 block of N. Milton Ave. Officers also found a 34-year-old man who had been shot in the torso. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and survived, said police, who did not release his name because the case remains open.

One man was killed and another injured in a double shooting in southeast Baltimore on Tuesday night. At about 9:25 p.m., police responded to investigate a report of gunshots north of Patterson Park in the 600 block of N. Milton Ave. While searching the area, they found a man shot in the head in the 2500 block of Monument Street. He was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:08 p.m. As of Wednesday morning, police had not identified the man, who they have listed as a "John Doe. " A 34-year-old man was also shot in the torso and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Southwest Baltimore district detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that killed a 19-year-old man late Wednesday. Police were summoned to the 3800 block of Old Frederick Road in the Saint Joseph's area at about 11 p.m. where they found the man with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was transported to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he died just before midnight, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. Police would not release his name until next of kin are notified.
