WITH SONGS and joyful praises, the congregation of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Eldersburg dedicated a new multipurpose building Sunday afternoon.Bishop George P. Mocko of the Delaware-Maryland Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and Pastor Eugene Alexander of Holy Spirit presided over the dedication service attended by congregation members and guests.The new building, which is connected to the church on Old Liberty Road, provides more than 6,000 square feet of additional space for the growing congregation.

Archbishop Edwin F. O'Brien apologized Thursday for the pain caused by the recent round of Catholic school closings, as he visited a new elementary school intended to provide seats for displaced students. "I am sorry for the disappointment and pain that I know will remain for a while," O'Brien said in an interview. "To grow and heal, there has to be some pain. We are building a solid school system that will be stable and solid for a long time into the future. " Holy Angels Elementary opens Sept.

The poet, novelist and biographer Robert Morgan, who was raised in North Carolina, has written many intriguing poems that teach his readers about Southern folklore. Here's one example. "Holy Cussing" When the most intense revivals swept the mountains just a century ago, participants described the shouts and barks in unknown tongues, the jerks of those who tried to climb the walls, the holy dance and laugh. But strangest are reports of what was called the holy cuss. Sometimes a man who spoke in tongues and leapt for joy would break into an avalanche of cursing that would stun with brilliance and duration.

My plea to save Cardianl not about sentiment; this is about a school that is successful. Struggling financially is not about success. Aren't we all struggling financially? Cardinal Gibbons School takes in boys, wild and excited about the freedoms of adulthood, and produces men, men who are disciples of Christ. The soccer coach preaches brotherhood to them. The lacrosse coach teaches them that God and family come first. The math teacher models service to the community and dedication to God by serving as the deacon at Gibbons and at St. Agnes Church.

Two weeks after returning from a visit to Cuba, Cardinal William H. Keeler will depart for the Philippines tomorrow as the pope's envoy at a gathering of 5,000 Roman Catholics.The National Congress of the Holy Spirit, a conference of Catholic laity, clergy and nuns from Thursday to Jan. 25 in Manila is the occasion for Keeler's visit halfway across the world. On March 10, 2005, MS. PETERKA, 88, of Joppatowne, died Thursday, March 10, 2005 at Franklin Square Hospital. Born December 18, 1917 in Baltimore she was the daughter of the late Charles and Frances Peterka. Ms. Peterka was a devoted member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and was employed with Aberdeen Proving Grounds. She was also a seasoned traveler, gardener, swimmer, reader, animal lover, and good friend to many. Survivors include nephews Nicholas Neus of Salisbury, Timothy Neus and his wife Priscilla of Colorado Springs, CO, and Peter Neus of Timonium, Great nephew Keith Neus and his wife Loren of Bethesda, great nieces Kim and her husband Bryan Howlin of Charlotte, NC, and Caraline and Kirsten Neus of Timonium.

KENNETH THERRES, age 75, of Joppa, MD, died on June 15, 2008 at his home. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late John Beno and Mary Emma Murphy Therres. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 25 years, where he was a letter carrier in Dundalk, MD. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served our country during the Korean War. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and the Edgewood V.F.W. An avid reader, he enjoyed traveling in the United States and attending family get togethers.

On Saturday, December 22, 2007, Dr. Jacqueline Norris departed this life to be in the "nearer presence of the Lord". She was born in Four Mile, S.C., on September 9, 1926, to the late Jasper James and Bertha Kinsey Carter. Pastor Jackie was educated in the public school system of South Carolina, trained in the school of the Holy Spirit and later received her honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Alpha Bible College. At the tender age of twenty, Pastor Jackie married the late Gordon L. Norris.

On March 18, 2007, PATRICK J., of Joppatowne, MD, formerly of Richmond, VA. He was the beloved husband for 53 years of the late Mary Cerveny Quinn and devoted father of three surviving daughters, Patrica Quinn-Carmichael, Colleen Quinn-House and Helene Quinn; the cherished grandfather of Justin and Stacey House. Patrick served in the South Pacific in WWII and retired after 40 years of service from the Chessie System. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and AARP, which included volunteering his skills each year at Tax Season.

GENEVA E. BURNSIDE, age 76, of Fenwick Island, DE and formerly of Baltimore, died after heart surgery at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, MD on Sunday, July 30, 2006. She was a retired Dental Hygienist and was an avid golfer, with a record of three holes in one, she was a member of the Keenwick Women's Club and the Women's She-Shells of Fenwick and a member of Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Ocean City, MD.
