Holy Rosary

It was 1995 and the Rev. Ronald P. Pytel of Baltimore's Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church believed he was dying. He and his parishioners prayed to Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun who had been recently beatified, and suddenly the congestive heart failure and degenerative aortic valve that doctors had said would be the end of Pytel were healed. The priest's amazing recovery, documented by doctors, was one of the miracles that led to the nun's canonization by Pope John Paul II in Rome in 2000.

On December 4, 2007, IRENE (nee Slowakiewicz); beloved wife of the late Martin Strozykowski; devoted mother of Stephan Stozykowski and Martin Koski and the late Joan Wilkins. The sound of more than a thousand singing voices spilled out the doors of St. Casimir Church in Canton yesterday afternoon as 10 young people emerged into the sunshine carrying a 10-foot wooden cross on their shoulders. Cardinal William H. Keeler, archbishop of Baltimore, emerged next with several other members of the clergy. And then hundreds of young Catholics poured out onto the sidewalk and started proceeding down the street. Mae Richardson, coordinator of youth ministry for Sacred Heart Parish of Glyndon, looked at the noisy, briskly moving sea of young people stretching for blocks along the edge of Patterson Park.

On July 28, 2004, REGINA BROCZKOWSKA aka BURKE, raised on Chester St., attending Holy Rosary School and Church, was predeceased by sisters Mary, Estelle, Cecilia, Wanda, Sunnie and Angela; Regina is survived by her sisters Helen Czyryca and Theresa Flynn and many, many nieces and nephews. After a season of freezing weather and short, dark days, I was ready for a long walk through the part of Baltimore that seems to change by the week. Would the streets of Fells Point be vacant as the sun was coming up? No. Many others were getting a run or walk in before the neighborhood is turned over to business, tourists and the thirsty. The Rev. Francizek J. Okroy, who had been an associate pastor at East Baltimore's Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church for more than three decades, died of a cerebral hemorrhage Friday at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was 91. Born and raised in Kartuzy, Poland, Father Okroy entered law school at the University of Warsaw in the early 1930s. But after a year, he left to attend warrant officers school and was later assigned to the marine unit of the Polish army's Batalion Morski. In 1937, he joined the Society of Christ and had completed two years of seminary when Germany invaded Poland on Sept.
