Arundel High School junior Christian Hodges was recently selected to serve on the Maryland State Board of Education as its student member, a position that places another item on his already loaded agenda. The 17-year-old from Odenton will serve during the 2013-2014 school year, with his appointment formally taking effect July 1. Hodges is already known in five states for his penchant for multitasking. He currently serves on the Region 2 advisory council of the National Association of Student Councils, representing students from Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania.

The bride to be is a 2004 graduate of Rising Sun High School. She teaches Elementary Special Education at Harford Christian School in Dublin. The groom elect is the son of Rev. As a kindergartner, Aaron Hodge was mesmerized by chef Emeril Lagasse's noisy approach to cooking on TV. "He got hooked on 'Bam!' and would repeat that even when he used a salt shaker at dinnertime," said Leroy Hodge, chuckling at the thought of his son, now 18 years old, imitating the popular chef's shtick at such a young age. A lot of people in Maryland might have felt as if Tropical Storm Hanna was just a warm breeze by the time it rumbled up here from the Carolinas, but the two guys standing out on Ruxton Road yesterday afternoon would disagree. One of them, 82-year-old Thomas Fell, was at the end of his driveway waiting for the power to come back on, after a warm night with a kerosene lantern, longing to open the refrigerator. The other, 56-year-old BGE crew leader Wayne Mellott, spent the night on a 15-hour shift slogging through woods and climbing poles in the dark, and after 2 1/2 hours working around Fell's house, he was ready to throw the switch.
